Hardcore connoisseur of the art of horror, true lover of sci-fi, and the unusual, weird, absurd, and even trippy stuff. A crime buster working underground against Hollywood's master plan to make big cash with the help of Word's auto-search and replace function, using the same 5 or 6 scripts over and over again. I also strongly suspect that in our modern days, some lazy scriptwriters leave the work to an AI while taking a nap.

What else? I am an incurable adept of the Antichrist and a non-vegan Latte Macchiato addict. And yes, I still have a special place in my heart for the original Evil Dead movies and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, sitting side by side with some of my newer favorites like Fight Club, The Matrix, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and Miller's finest dance on the Fury Road.

The aim of my Higher Self!? To write 2222 reviews, and after that, I will take a break and go on to meet the challenges and pleasures of my next incarnation.

Last note: my reviews are not validated truth but strictly my very own personal opinion, and no doubt they are more than just occasionally misguided by my outrageously appetite for stuff of triumphant bad taste style, the smell of cheese, and the true art of schlock.

  • Mixed Bag

Sadly, Besson's vision of Dracula is an ill-conceived mix that sometimes - unintentionally - crosses the line to parody.

These parts seriously undermine the dramatic and horror elements. In the end, a mixed impression remains: the movie certainly has some good moments and entertains to a certain extent, but clearly exposes its weaknesses when compared to Coppola's vision.

Last but not least, the changes compared to Shelley's story, in particular, are mostly unsuccessful and weaken the story presented. The most charming performance was delivered by Matilda De Angelis as Maria. The rest of the cast works solid. Christoph Waltz reminds me of Johnny Depp lately; both seem to be trapped into playing always the same or at least very similar characters, no matter the movie.

  • Good Looking Kitsch

Strongest part of Toro's Frankenstein are the visual quality and the cast (which is really good). Sadly, the longer the movie runs and the more Mr. Toro put in his own ideas to the story, the more the story fell apart. In the end we get, I dare to say, some kitsch served - the ending is really sentimental kitsch par excellence including the music score. Anyway, Frankenstein is not a bad movie or failure, just not really good. Verdict: watchable but soon to be forgotten.

  • Cheese 'n' Gore

Deathstalker is pretty stupid but fun: It's kind of a mix of Xena and Hercules (fantasy setting, quest, humor) spiced up with a good dose of gore 'n' splatter. The production is not bad for a B-movie; the cast looks like they are having fun. The gory moments are great fun too. So, if you like sword 'n' magic flicks and you like splatter, you get an entertaining cheesy piece of cake. No doubt, only a special breed of audience will get this one, but if you belong to that family, you will find some fun and entertainment. My rate: five overall, one bonus for the effects.
