Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill (2022)
Yikes.
The only reason I'm rating this 2 stars is because I liked Bill's quick bit at the beginning.
Michelle's comedy was moderately funny. Like the kind you would listen to and smile but not really bust out a laugh. At least the jokes were relatable and actually planned out unlike the comedian that came on after Michelle.
When Jimmy came on I realized that I don't want to waste my time on this. He wasn't funny at all. He just recited some simple "edgy" jokes that weren't even nearly on the same level as Bill Burr's comedy. In my opinion, he wasn't even near Michelle's level.
I have been a fan of Bill Burr for years and have seen all his stand ups and a lot of extra content like interviews. This isn't the same as the other specials. It's bad. Really bad. Don't waste your time and just re-watch older Bill Burr specials.
Man vs Bee (2022)
If you can't imagine a series without Rowan Atkinson, then it's an idea that should not be realized.
When I saw the trailer for this series I thought is was a film. I was excited to see it as I have enjoyed most comedies that feature Rowan Atkinson. The reality is that it was a big disappointment.
The series could have easily been a film, which would help with the story structure and direction. There's too many layers to the story, some of which don't really matter, such as Trevor's family life. The full story is about an hour long and in this time we are given so many mini-stories that it throws you off from the actual story - man vs. Bee. While the three robbers added an interesting aspect to the story, the whole insurance scam story felt disconnected from the main story. Even the robbers are debateable. As a viewer, I don't care and won't remember the property owner's insurance fraud. Figure out what your series is about.
There's way too many slapstick gags and most are predictable due to how the shots are framed and edited. Unlike other Rowan Atkinson's work such as Mr. Bean's Holiday or Johnny English, the gags in this series are moderately enjoyable. They're "watchable" but I didn't laugh cause I already knew what was going to happen. Some of the gags were ridiculously stupid. Like why would a person ruin a car just to kill a bee? And if it's inside the car, why not just leave it there? The bee didn't even do anything to Trevor, so why is he chasing it? Because it's annoying? Does he not understand that he's destroying property as he does it? The character is so stupidly careless that it's not even explainable. Maybe this series is more suitable for children.
I don't usually write reviews but I was just so disappointed by this series that I had to. It's as if it was written by a first year film school student who hasn't even had an introduction to screenwriting class yet.
Rowan's acting was on point as always, absolutely perfect visual comedy. Without Rowan Atkinson this series wouldn't exist. It wouldn't even be moderately funny. If your comedy series isn't funny without a certain actor, maybe reconsider creating it.
The bee visual effects were great. Rowan Atkinson and the bee VFX are the only two things I actually liked about the series.
North Hollywood (2021)
It's alright. The cinematography was the best quality of this film.
I liked the way it was filmed - the composition and even the lens they used but the story felt unfinished. I think the film should have been longer or have a better ending. I wanted to see the main character make a part and get sponsored or win a contest and see his dad waiting for him to bring home the money and the trophy. The ending was just not satisfactory. The dialogue's alright. The friendship between the three friends was portrayed realistically. That's one thing that was done right in this film. As I mentioned before, the one thing that made this film enjoyable was the cinematography. That wide lens look is what kept me from looking away. I would love to see more films shot with a wide lens.
Overall, the film was just alright. I think if Illegal Civ keeps making more films they might be on to something.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
Awkward and really unrealistic
The dialogue and actions of the characters are really unrealistic. It's also quite awkward to watch a 15 year old character have sex. It's just weird.
Magnetic (2018)
It's missing something..
Maybe it's just me.. but after watching this I realized I hadn't seen any female athletes in the film and found it quite weird. Are there really no female big wave surfers? Kite surfing and wind surfing is a popular water sport among women so I don't understand why there's no female athletes in the film. Maybe whoever made the film didn't think about this. I just find it a little weird. Actually, I don't think there were any females in the film at all... besides one of the wives that was shown video calling a pro skier.
Overall, the film is just alright. I started watching it with interest cause it features Nazare, Portugal and I've heard a lot about that place and how big the waves are. That was interesting to see. The skiing was also interesting. Then I skipped a lot and went to the wind surfing and after that I just ended the film cause it got boring. I feel like it's missing something.
We Are Who We Are (2020)
It's different.
It's different but not in a good way. It's trying to be realistic but it's not. One of the main characters - Fraser, is so spoiled and rude it's hard to watch the series. No military mother/father would allow their kid to abuse them. He sometimes acts like a baby and it's annoying. The main problem in this series is how the characters are written.
Bonding (2018)
Season 2 is so weird..
I knew the show was "unique" when I started watching it but at least it was kinda funny but now it's just weird. That Benson dog scene.. weird. weird. weird.
Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer (2021)
Interesting story, boring documentary.
First of all, I think this should have been made into a 90 minute film, not a series. It's too long and has many details that aren't necessary to the story of the cowardly Richard Ramirez.
The first episode was quite interesting at the start cause I haven't heard of this story before but then all that was explained in the next episodes was how he commit more horrible murders and other crimes which were all very similar. It felt very repetitive. The documentary explained the same things over and over again.
What I liked in the documentary series was that different people who were involved, some more than others, were interviewed about Ramirez. But then again.. there's a lot of other people on the screen a lot more than Ramirez himself. The series became more like a documentary of the people who were hurt or involved in the case. There were some parts where they explained why Ramirez is how he is but there could have been more. I don't understand why they didn't investigate or interview Ramirez's brother who was mentioned in the story. If Ramirez's face is on the newspapers, wouldn't his brother have known who he really is when Ramirez came to visit him?
Watching this felt like a waste of time but I wanted to get to the ending cause I haven't heard of this case before. There's probably a YouTube documentary under 90 minutes long on this serial killer that explains it quicker while still keeping all the necessary details.
Restrito (2013)
Great short documentary!
It's a great documentary on the problem of localism in the surfing lifestyle. It's about a town in Brazil. A fun, quick watch :)
Out Cold (2001)
Male characters act like animals
The male characters in this film are written in such a way that they act like animals whenever around women. It's kind of disgusting to watch this as a woman. It's way too exaggerated and just cringy behavior. The film's story isn't that bad but this cringy vibe just ruined the whole movie for me.
