Conclave (2024)
What a joke!
The cinematography was stunning, the score was exceptional, the pacing was just right, and the costumes were absolutely beautiful. The acting? Flawless. But for me, the script was the real issue. The idea that so much scandals could unfold during an actual conclave felt completely unbelievable.
What really threw me off was the fact that the manager's sermon was about electing an imperfect pope, yet he disqualifies the leading candidate over a sin from three decades ago. That felt like a lazy plot device-or worse, an excuse to conveniently sideline the black cardinal. From there, the story started falling apart for me.
And don't even get me started on the new intersex Cardinal. The moment he said that prayer at the beginning, it was painfully obvious he'd end up as Pope. Why else would they introduce him so prominently? It just felt forced and predictable. An intersex Pope for that matter? Haha.
Am not sure how an actual Catholic might feel watching this. Am not Catholic but I felt the portrayal of the conclave was overly chaotic and disorganized. How much more them.
Smile 2 (2024)
As good as the first......
For me, one thing that makes an amazing horror movie is having a lead character who's incredibly hysterical yet totally believable. And boyyyyy, Naomi Scott deserves all the flowers for her performance in this movie-she was *phenomenal*. I couldn't get enough of her. She keeeeeelled every scene, making it an absolute joy to watch her completely lose it, screaming, "f...k f...k f...k" in pure panic. Hahahahaha. It's been ages since I've seen a performance this captivating in the genre.
Ooooh my daaaaayz! What an absolute thrill ride. The opening was spot-on, seamlessly picking up from the first movie and setting an exciting tone for what was to come. But unfortunately, that initial momentum didn't carry through. The next several minutes were more like filler-delving into backstory about the lead character's glamorous stardom. By the time we got to the actual story, I felt a little let down because instead of continuing where the first movie left off, we were introduced to a completely new victim. At this point, I thought am just watching a repeat of the first movie and knew exactly how the plot would unfold.
But I just kept watching because Naomi was simply amazing. Honestly speaking, it's what saved this movie because it kept me glued right to that unbelievably insane ending.
The writers truly raised the bar with that jaw-dropping conclusion. It left me wondering how on earth they're going to pull off the third installment and keep up with the expectations they've set for this dope franchise. Naomi Scott carried this one on her back, and honestly, I'm already excited to see what's next!
I can't believe I was laughing hysterically after the movie ended. I had so much fun. Great entertainment.
Magpie (2024)
Beautiful plot twist
Daisy Ridley gradually becoming one of my top favorite actresses for real. If there's one line I can use to summarize this movie it's "fear the silent ones". If you've watched the movie, that might sound like am against the lady but that's far from it. I was very very much glad with the turn out of events in this movie.
The build up, as annoying so it was, was perfectly set up for the plot twist. I didn't see that coming at all. All along I was thinking Alicia was in on the affair, I couldn't be further from the truth. I won't lie, I almost ended the movie a few times because it dragged on abit, but am glad I didn't and stuck it out to the very end.
Greedy People (2024)
Hidden Gem
Every now and then you come across a movie that you didn't expect would be good, but then it completely blows your mind. Greedy People is that movie. It's funny, it's brilliant and the message is so stricken and powerful.
I've always been a fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, so watching this was definitely going to happen but I didn't know what to expect especially since it had this strong comedy undertone, and am not very big on comedies. Also the production was kinda b rated, but with a stellar cast including Lily James, Tim Blake and Uzo Aduba, I couldn't stop watching. And thank God I kept watching because things really turned dark right at the end, to my shock and pleasure.
Definitely recommendable.
Don't Move (2024)
Snoozefest
I can't believe the number of times I rolled my eyes watching this extremely predictable and unbelievable movie.
The premise was so bland, you'd think it was written by AI with no forethought. So you kidnap a stranger, paralyse them and then what? No backstory, no suspense, no plot twists, all you have is just a long boring ride full of boring conversations, predictable moments, two dumb people doing stupid things that gets them killed obviously and lots of breathing. Oh did I say two dumb people, make that three, including the dumbest serial killer ever. Dude talked so much, he forgot that the medicine actually wears off, then gets killed? I mean, how do you get killed by an immobile person?
So stupid movie.
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 (2024)
This is just the beginning....
I love love loved it. I don't know what people are talking about it being all over the place. This is a movie of different characters with stories intertwined and most probably climaxing at the Horizon. If you don't stay focused, you'll get confused easily. I can already see how they are all connected one way or another and it just makes me eager to watch the other 3 parts.
The war between the Indians and Americans is clearly at the center of this beautiful story and so far I have loved the production. It's brutal, unforgiving, it's dark and painful to watch. Throughout the second half, I was praying for the migrants' safety. It would have been devastating, to say the least, if they were attacked.
Excellent directing, great cinematography, beautiful storytelling and pacing.
Caddo Lake (2024)
The best one line ending ever.
Oh my days! If you're looking for a movie that will completely mess with your mind, you need to watch Caddo Lake. It's an easy 10/10 for me. What a brilliantly written film that takes you on a thrilling and captivating rollercoaster ride. I won't say too much, but get ready for a thrilling, mind-bending experience.
If you're a serious movie lover, this is a must-watch. The acting, cinematography, and pacing were all on point, but the writing is what truly blew me away. There's no way you'll watch this once and not feel the urge to go back for a second round. And heads-up: if you can't give it your full attention, you'll miss out on a lot. It's one of those movies where you need to watch it again to piece everything together and truly appreciate its brilliance.
Highly recommend!
Io capitano (2023)
Unbelievable Masterpiece
Every now and then, you come across a movie that makes you deeply grateful for life, no matter how messed up your situation might be. Io Capitano is one of those films, delivering a brutally honest and powerful portrayal of the dangerous journey many of our brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers undertake in hopes of reaching Europe.
The movie was so raw and realistic that I found myself questioning whether I was watching a movie or real-life footages. The acting, especially from the lead, Seydou, was phenomenal. Every moment was gripping, though some scenes were almost too gory to believe. Yet, if these events truly happened, as the film is based on a true story, it demands a deep respect for these migrants and their unimaginable struggles.
As I watched, I kept reminding myself that this journey IS illegal, and that they got what they deserve? But can you blame them though? What struck me most was how, despite having so many odds against them, being chased by corrupt police, rebels, immigration officers etc, there were still pockets of people established all around, ready to help them, offering glimmers of hope. That sense of humanity was heartwarming.
This film is a beautiful story of survival, guts, hope, and courage. I absolutely loved it.
Stopping the Steal (2024)
That was awful
The low number of comments here truly is inspiring. Thank God the American people aren't falling for this shameful piece of work.
The only thing Donald Trump and his team were wrong was actually thinking they could overturn a rigged election. I mean, do you even know the shear scale of implications surrounding such an event if found to be true? So many people would have to be rounded up and put in jail.
The only way to win, is to win by a huge gap, so big that they can't rig it and I hope that this election does that, if not, they can forget it. They rigged it whilst you are in office, how much more now that they are in office.
Speak No Evil (2024)
Almost as good as the original
Five minutes in, I had a feeling this movie felt familiar, like I had seen it before. It didn't take long for me to realize that it's a remake of the Danish horror film by the same title. The setup is exactly the same: two couples, two kids, from different parts of the world. One family invites the other for a weekend, things go wrong, and chaos ensues. However, unlike the Hollywood version, the original didn't have a happy ending-because in real life, good doesn't always win.
I remember how frustrating the original was, particularly with how weak the male character seemed, leaving me wondering if all Danish men were portrayed that way! It was a powerfully sad film. But as always, Hollywood had to put its fairy-tale spin on things, giving us a more predictable yet still entertaining ending.
It's an interesting movie regardless. If you liked this version, you should definitely check out the original for a more intense experience.
Wolfs (2024)
That was terrible
I never thought I'd say this, but I actually found myself falling asleep during a Brad Pitt movie. It was dull, and not remotely funny. I can't even categorize it-was it supposed to be an action-comedy? It was neither.
The only moment that got a chuckle out of me was when the kid explained how he got the drugs. After that, everything just went downhill.
It's a shame because the actress in the opening scene did an incredible job setting the tone. Unfortunately, it was all wasted as the movie devolved into two grown men acting like immature kids, engaging in shallow arguments that weren't funny at all.
It feels like they took this project purely for an easy paycheck, because why else would they sign up for such a terrible script?
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Lost it's essence
The first and second *Deadpool* movies had something truly special. The first film introduced us to the gritty, gruesome origin of Deadpool, and its dark tone was perfectly balanced with a fresh, comical, anything-goes style of production that we had never seen before. Ryan Reynolds nailed the role. By the time *Deadpool 2* arrived, fans were hungry for more of that same style, and not only did it deliver, but it also gave us a compelling plot with the introduction of Cable, played by Josh Brolin.
However, this third movie seems to miss the mark completely. While Ryan's comedic performance is once again a highlight-and arguably the best part of the movie-after a while, the jokes start to wear thin and even become annoying. There's a time and place for everything, but in this film, it feels like nothing was taken seriously. And because Deadpool didn't take anything seriously, neither did we, which ultimately detracted from the entire experience.
The cameos were fantastic, but the story itself fell flat. It was so poorly constructed that it felt like it was written by AI. I would even go so far as to say it's one of the worst plots in Marvel history. It made no sense from the beginning, and it's a shame they dragged a complex character like Wolverine into this mess.
In the end, the film was dull, predictable, and annoyingly funny-not in the good way the first two were.
The Front Room (2024)
A24, Brandy and the rest should be ashamed
Where's the joke? I must not have seen it because I don't think it was the old lady who was incontinent? Was it? Would you treat your incontinent mother, mother in law like that? Would you find such scenarios funny? Would you, as a husband/son watch your wife treat your mother with such disgust?
Terrible script. I didn't quite understand anything that was going on. What was the mother in law's motives? She seemed like a very generous and caring person. Yet she was the racist and evil one? What was Belinda upset about right from the beginning of the movie? I mean, you don't tell a nurse "shoosh" whilst she's performing her duty. So disrespectful. So annoying. So ungrateful. So spoilt.
After I had dozed off several times, the end finally came and boy, was that the lousiest plot twist in movie history or what?
It Ends with Us (2024)
The message was not convincing
If this movie was intended to be an anti-domestic violence (DV) statement, encouraging women in abusive relationships to leave, I think it missed the mark in delivering that message effectively.
Yes, the husband lost his temper once or twice, and she got hurt indirectly. The third time, he bit her. I understand he's mentally unstable, but suggesting that divorce and raising a child without its father is better than staying with him seems unfair to men like him and to the millions of women who endure far worse yet choose to stay.
Now, I'm not excusing domestic violence, but I feel what this husband did didn't justify such extreme consequences. It's a different story if he was brutally beating her, treating her with contempt, cheating on her, or commiting the typical severe acts associated with abusive relationships. This guy didn't do that. He loved her, cared for her, respected her, and supported her. All he asked for was the same in return, and she didn't give it.
We can't definitively say he wouldn't change or that he'd abuse her again. We don't know that for certain but from this movie, that husband wasn't abusive, he was traumatized and just needed help.
Young Woman and the Sea (2024)
Brilliantly Done
Every now and then, you come across a movie you'd want to show your kids and grandkids. This film definitely tops that list. It was beautifully crafted, and Daisy Ridley, the lead actress, delivered a phenomenal performance. It's rare for a movie to make me cry, but when one does, you know it's hitting all the right notes.
The story was a remarkable, true testament to believing in yourself, regardless of what others may think-even your parents, whose love for you can sometimes cloud their judgment. Follow your heart, find those who can help you along the way, and stay focused.
And of course, it goes without saying-what a man can do... well, you know the rest. :)
Blink Twice (2024)
Zoë's best yet....
I won't lie, I didn't expect this to be that good. Maybe if I had known it was Channing on the cover, I would have been more expectant. It's good to see him back on the screen though looking alot older.
The story was a mix-bag for me. It was interesting but atimes didn't make sense, especially the old Mexican woman's behavior. What was she about? What was the meaning of 'Red Rabbit'? But it had enough suspense to keep me interested right to the end.
The story was different, it had a cool plot twist at the end, the FX were great, the acting was solid from all, there were some really cool high profile casts in there and the cinematography was awesome.
The Union (2024)
This was very ridiculous
From the start, I knew this was a really bad one but I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw an old rugged BMW, a Ford Fusion giving a Porsche a run for it's money.
I honestly think Mark Walhberg either needs to reinvent himself or just stop acting because his classic act is very much played out. You literally knew what's going to happen and what's DEFINITELY NOT going to happen.
And what was it?! Action? Comedy? I definitely was not any of them because the action scenes were awful and it wasn't funny at all. I bet Tom Cruise would be watching this and laughing his head off and this awful attempt at producing an action movie.
AfrAId (2024)
Cool Simple Movie with a powerful message
If there's anything I learnt from this movie, is that the future generation is doomed if we continue down this path of total reliance on cloud computing. We have kids growing up with no knowledge on how to do anything physically, where all they know is virtual and dependent on AI, making them practically useless without a phone or computer. I mean, you have autonomous everything now from self driving automobiles to basic things like paying bills. Everything is centered around the internet and I doesn't take rocket science to know what will happen when AI takes control of the internet and our data since it will have to access to everything online. Definitely scary.
With that said, clearly you can tell I enjoyed this one. It was well acted, well directed and well scripted with an unexpected but well satisfying ending.
Latency (2024)
The best part was the opening
Aside from the opening scene, nothing happened throughout this movie worth watching. This had such an interesting premise with almost lifelike gaming characters, they could have taken this movie in any direction but they took it to the worse possibly place instead.
Thankfully I was able to skip ahead, which was the only reason why I was able to get about 3 quarters of the movie before I gave up and fell asleep.

1992 (2022)
Rest in Peace Ray
I feel like Tyrese is becoming complacent. Listening to him from one interview to the next, he comes across as someone who feels he's achieved a lot and should be revered for it. While he's undeniably an amazing singer, as an actor, I think he's just okay and got lucky with *Fast & Furious*, heavily relying on the strength of the supporting cast.
I've always been a fan of Scott Eastwood, son of the legendary Clint Eastwood, and you can never go wrong with the always brilliant Ray Liotta (RIP), who delivered a strong performance in this movie. His presence kept me engaged right until the end.
As for the script, it's clever, but the execution felt a bit second-rate. Then again, that's often what you get with a B movie. It's not great, but it's not terrible either.
Rebel Ridge (2024)
That was a epic adrenaline rush....
I won't lie, I had to pause the movie after an hour just to process everything that was happening-it was unbelievably good. From the opening scene, which I believe was a message to the Black community on how to handle bad cops, it only got better and more captivating.
I've been a fan of Aaron Pierre since watching him in *Old*, and I knew he had a bright future. It's great to see him deliver yet another standout performance. I can't wait to see what's next for him after this stellar role.
The movie itself was brilliant. The story was multifaceted, and the acting was spot on. Everyone played their part well. The score was surprisingly different, but I appreciated it. That said, I didn't think Summers' backstory was necessary-it could have saved us about 30 minutes.
Still, it was a great movie overall.
Place of Bones (2023)
That was very decent
Great acting. Great dialogue. Great storyline. Great cinematography.
At first it seems like a basic movie with low budget, but when you have great acting and special FX that works, a basic movie turns into} something special like this. Under normal circumstances, you'd expect to get bored with so much dialogue, but I didn't experience that with this movie. The dialogue was funny, it was intelligent and interesting. The twist at the end was surprising even though it really didn't have anything to do with the actually occurrence in the movie.
All in all, it's a pretty decent Western, give it a chance.
Trap (2024)
This could have been great.
The premise was very interesting but the execution was just bad. Started out well and I enjoyed the concert scenes, without the music of course, but everything turned sour as soon as they left. It's like I was watching a different movie. Everything, from casting to storyline looked like it was written by a teen there on. Right to the very end.
This could have been a great movie had they taken their time to research and plan. This FBI crew has got to be the dumbest ever. The singer, who I just realize is the director's daughter, is the worst actor ever, and Josh Hartnett???? The least said, the better.
Longlegs (2024)
Another fail from Uncle Nicolas
That was one painfully slow movie. The acting was solid overall-everyone did a great job-but something about the lead actress just didn't click, and it brought a sense of dullness to the whole film. Her demeanor made everything feel flat, and you could sense it throughout. Nicolas Cage and Blaire both delivered strong performances, but unfortunately, the script was just too weak for anyone to salvage.
After an hour and ten minutes of boring buildup, we finally got some action, but by then, it was too late. I had already checked out of this snoozefest. Even the title didn't make sense in relation to the plot. Overall, a very poor storyline.
The Killer (2024)
Awful
Ridiculous movie. There's nothing here that was done right. The dialogue sucked. The plot sucked. The fight scenes sucked. The cast sucked. I wouldn't even get myself to watch to the end, so much unrealistic mess in this movie, all in the name of feminism SMH.
When will people understand that having a female lead in an action movie isn't a small feat? Unlike men, it's just not normal to see a woman doing all those things so there has to be some solid back story and convincing choreography which Nathalie didn't offer.
Unlike great female led action movies like Anna, Atomic Blonde, What happened to Monday or even Colombiana, this movie has got nothing to offer. Total trash.
