  • Classic Western !

....as mentioned, Classic Western! Very Gritty! Released in 1971, I first saw this movie at the (now closed) Rodeo Drive-In Theatre in Widescreen. Chato's Land is one of those movies that you have to watch From The Very Beginning! It starts with the towns sheriff going into the saloon. At the same time, Chato plucks a coin down for a taste. The bartender takes the bottle, pours a couple. I won't repeat what the sheriff says to Chato . . . but in a nutshell, Chato is Forced to defend himself & adios Sheriff Eli Saunders. Chato rides quickly out of town . . . & here is where i'm going to leave it. What happens to the men who "hunt" him down is what drives this movie ....almost from start to finish. It's unfortunate that movie hasn't gotten (any) good if not better reviews. In my opinion, the cinematography is wonderfully photographed & Beautiful . . . with the exceptions of the "saguaros" (notice how they bend when the wind kicks up). Chato's Land is one of those rarities that is "actually Western" with all the Dirt, Grit, & Horses. The Cast is Excellent ! Jack Palance, Richard Basehart, Simon Oakland, Victor French and the many others I didn't mentioned work so well with each other in this movie. but, be prepared for some of the language . . . An Excellent addition to Any movie collection ! Thank You M. Winner for an Excellent Western!! I also found out that the Soundtrack is now available on CD!! Enjoy!!

  • Excellent Prequel & Cast !

This is a Prequel to the 1982 movie "John Carpenter's The Thing". This movie takes place in the year 1982 with "a Discovery" by a trio of Norwigians stationed in Antarctica. Next, a young student Palientologist ...Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is being asked to participate in this discovery and is convinced by her co-worker Adam to go . . .& so, she & him go. Once there, they find an alien ship of some sort that by the looks of things, is Very Big & they document what they have found (note the video recording equipment being used). Later, as they are coming out from where they were, they also discover a Frozen body with arms that somewhat resemble tentacles without the suction cups. The block of Ice is cut out & brought back to camp for further study. As they are Toasting & Boasting to one another on their discovery, the block is defrosting. Some noises are heard & the next thing you know, the creature has Exploded out of its block of ice & is loose . . & here is where i'm going to leave it. The visual effects were Excellently Done without going overboard. It would have been nice however to actually See what the creature looks like from the start. I guess i'll have to wait for the DVD to come out for a Closer Look. Great Work by Mary Elizabeth Winstead on the part of Kate. Not only do I think she is Very Beautiful with Minimal Make-Up, She's Tough & Kicks ASS!! If you have seen the John Carpenter movie already, this prequel will tie this whole story all together from the Very Beginning. You WON'T Be Disappointed ! Enjoy!

  • Great Classic Monster Movie !

...I can remember when & where I was when I first saw this Roger Corman Classic. . . . it was when HBO was in it's infancy & late at nite or late at nite on the weekends, this movie was shown for one month straight! ..ah, what fun.

Originally released in 1982 & under the title of "Mutant", the title of which was renamed "Forbidden World" when it was released in theaters as well as being re-edited, Forbidden World is about a consultant who has been sent to a far away planet where genetic engineering is being researched.

Subject 20 has gotten lose inside the lab compound & eventually reeks catastrophe in the lab and in other parts/areas of the lab compound, not to mention, an appetite. ...& here is where i'll leave it without giving away the ending. For it's budget, the visual effects in this movie are quite good . . . gorry, but good. Although this movie has been branded an "alien" rip-off, . . . in my opinion (for what it's worth), I found this movie very entertaining, and fun to watch. ....especially when the monster made it's presence known. For quite sometime, this movie was only available on VHS. Now, it's been finally released on DVD & what's neat is that the Original Release of this movie under it's original title "Mutant" along with a "letter-box" and a re-mastered version of the theatrical release, and if you are a Roger Corman fan as I am, GRAB THIS DVD WHILE IT'S OUT!! ...enjoy!
