Kimetsu no Yaiba: A Connected Bond: Daybreak and First Light (2023)
Weakest Season So Far
Season 3 - 6/10
While not a bad season by any means, this is the weakest one so far. Despite upping the ante significantly in terms of opponents' power, this didn't feel like the triumph of the previous seasons. Daki and Gyutaro had their issues as villains, but they felt relatable in the end and played off of each other strongly in places. I can't say the same for Upper Moon 4 and 5, the latter of whom had a cool design and little else (obsession with art and being the best is pretty weak and we never see his background), while the former had some very strong fight dynamics... but little else, even with the snippet of background we got on him. The fight against 5 was just not very interesting, while the fight against 4 was gripping and kept my attention.
As per usual the Music, design and effects lived up to standard with the climax once again being very visually satisfying. The Swordsmith Village arc is a low point for sure, but it is still good even with that being the case.
Kimetsu no Yaiba: No Matter How Many Lives (2022)
Great Season
To start off, the story wasn't that complex. It was easy to follow and throughout the show they solidified the plot for the characters. I would've liked more episodes but the given amount of 11 episodes seem to cover what they needed to cover.
The art is nothing but incredible. The fluidity, the dynamic camera angles, the consistent character model, the colour palette, the bland of CGI and hand drawn animations worked harmoniously together. The soundtrack of this season had to keep up with the animation and the feelings portrayed by the characters. The soundtrack was amazing and almost enhanced the fight sequences even more.
The villain of this season was also surprisingly well written, with great parallels being drawn between the villain and the protagonist, which makes the conflict ever so personal and meaningful to the main characters and to the audience. Uzui is very different and likes to be all "flashy" which is a cool aspect.
Overall I really like the anime. It has easily one of the best animation, good story, unique characters, decent soundtracks (soundtracks really fit well) and unique visual design.
Naruto: Shippûden (2007)
Must Watch
I'll start with the story. Indeed the plot, the fantastic world, all the jutsu techniques, all the creatures and characters, everything that we saw in Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden world is a creation of a mastermind - Kishimoto Masashi. There is everything I love about the story and about how it is served to the viewer revealing its genius from all sides. It is groundbreaking in every way possible.
Nearly 100 characters, each with their own temper, beliefs and credo, each of them is trying to make an impact at the world they live in. I will always remember characters like Madara, Itachi, Nagato, Obito because their own vision of the world and the steel will they've shown to everyone is something worth of admiration and respect. All the heroes are versatile, unique and incomparable to each other. I am not mentioning the number of skills and techniques each character possesses and how multiform and complex they are. Worth mentioning are beasts like Tailed once. They are that destructive force everyone is trying to lay their hands on, but the author shows that they are something more than that - they have souls and feelings, and no one can see their good hearts under the scary masks.
The fights in Naruto are UNMATCHED. The choreography of the main fights is beautiful. Characters can express emotions through the punches they throw. The fight choreography in Naruto tells a story on its own. One of the strong points of Shippuden is without a doubt its OSTs. Openings, endings, and music are all great.
I highly recommend watching this whole anime. Even though it is loaded with fillers, by the time you get to the last few episodes, you'll start to feel emotional and sad that it's come to an end. The end will have you feeling nostalgic, sad, happy, you'll honestly be feeling so many different emotions. This anime may be 500 episodes, but it is totally worth it and in the end you won't regret it.
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack (2024)
Waste of Time
The initial episodes are slow-paced, and the dark Kathmandu scenes make it hard to follow the plot at times. A more gripping, fast-paced narrative would have made the series more engaging. The series takes an oddly sympathetic view of the hijackers at certain points, which feels out of place and dilutes the gravity of their actions. The "cast" is impressive but the "casting" is not. The show feels very cheaply made for some reason. In a hurry with few details..
The whole stretch of negotiations is hushed up towards the end leaving us with the same feeling we get when a TV serial that runs for years gets all of a sudden wound up in one episode.
Munjya (2024)
Entertaining Horror Comedy
Munjya successfully combines horror and comedy, a genre blend that can be tricky to pull off. The direction by Aditya Sarpotdar ensures a seamless flow of the narrative, keeping the audience entertained with a mix of spooky sequences and laugh-out-loud moments. The screenplay by Niren Bhatt, and Yogesh Chandekar is tight, with witty dialogues and well-timed scares. Munjya, the CGI monster, is the main attraction of the movie. He's sketched and presented well, with notorious nature, eerie expressions and a dash of childishness that aligns well with the time he died. The VFX and accurate editing of the movie also kind of saves the films.
Kalki 2898-AD (2024)
Visual Spectacle
A visual spectacle by all means, Kalki is equipped with world-class VFX that doesn't disappoint. With sets mounted on a huge scale, there are spectacular sequences of large structures, mid-air action and robotic characters that add to the sci-fi drama. Kudos to Djordje Stojiljkovic for a brilliant cinematography. Director Nag Ashwin's vision for 'Kalki 2898 AD' is ambitious. With exciting ideas and a worthy storyline, he fulfills his duty as a filmmaker. The story, though starts on a slow note, turns into an intriguing one once the filmmaker introduces the world he has built. Until then, we see episodes about Ashwattama, Sumathi and Bhairava, which might look disjointed. And a little patience is needed, especially in the scenes involving Bhairava and Roxie. These moments, in fact, appear to slow down the narrative.
Amitabh Bachchan's Ashwattama is one of the biggest strengths of 'Kalki 2898 AD'. His screen presence and demeanour, along with his intense baritone make us believe that he is Ashwattama. Prabhas, meanwhile, gets a comedy role, which turns serious in the second half. His comedy timing worked in parts, but he truly shines in the action episodes, which are the backbone of the film. Deepika Padukone adds emotion and vulnerability to the grand film about grand concepts in personification. Besides the lead characters and a stellar performance by Kamal Haasan, the film boasted an ensemble cast of actors like Rajendra Prasad, Shobhana, Saswata Chatterjee, and many more who made their presence known in just a matter of minutes.
Kalki 2898 AD is a pure build-up for what's coming next in the sequel. The film is purely fictional but makes you believe that it is reality. Its larger-than-life spectacle transports you to Kashi, Complex and Shambala. The choice of actors and their perfect portrayal make this film a must-watch.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024)
Lazy Writing
The first hour is spent doing nothing as the soldiers fight an unknown threat. The makers have focused little on the story and delivered too many action scenes. If you take a shot every time there's a slow-motion scene of Akshay and Tiger walking in front of a blast, you'd get drunk by the interval. To be honest, that's a more suitable state to watch the second half, which only worsens. Bullets fly, bombs explode, vehicles go up in flames and choppers, tanks and armoured vehicles run riot in a blurry series of events so exhausting and egregious that it numbs the brain to a point where you begin to wonder whether any grey cells would actually have gone into the making of the film.
To make matters worse, the film's runtime feels like an eternity. Scenes are stretched to the breaking point, with unnecessary filler padding out an already thin plot. It's as if the filmmakers were trying to compensate for the lack of substance with sheer volume, resulting in a bloated, tedious slog of a movie.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan offers not a single shred that could considered a saving grace. Sitting through the is a slog without respite.
Parking (2023)
Major Tussle over a minor issue
The male ego is a fascinating paradox-it is both the architect of ambition and the architect of its own downfall. This world of male ego quickly turns into a battlefield in "Parking." The involved men sometimes apologize but are never in sync, and things keep getting escalated. Ilamparithi becomes so consumed by his ego that he involves his daughter to frame Eeshwar in a sexual harassment case. The film showcases how biased and women-centric laws get exploited by manipulative individuals to ruin others.
Ramkumar does not look to preach. He showcases the developments in a conflict between two egotistical, adamant men unwilling to back down an inch.
The film makes no effort to hide the bitterness people exhibit when their egos are bruised. The story seems to have been written based on careful observation. Therefore, it impresses. Parking is a fine film as it speaks of issues that are pretty much there in society, but nobody thinks it to be big enough for it to be discussed on screen.
Fighter (2024)
High Flying Patriotism
Just like the earlier movies of Siddharth Anand, there isn't anything unique about Fighter's plot. The initial forty minutes or so is used for the intro of characters, and then the conflict point is brought in. It is followed by solid aerial action blocks. The aerial stunt sequences deserve all the applause. They are done well. What helps Fighter maintain its pace is the lead hero Hrithik Roshan, who reminds us what makes him a true-blue Bollywood superstar. His wittiness, dialogue delivery, subtle acting, and charm help the movie big time. Deepika Padukone delivers in both the action and emotional scenes. Rishabh Sawhney sure looks all buffed up but doesn't really send chills down our spines as a ruthless villain.
The songs and background score of Fighter are a letdown. Except for the Vandemataram track, the background score isn't great. The romance between the lead actors is half baked and reaches a convenient conclusion.
It's an easy breezy action film cut with a oodles of patriotism and is buoyed by bankable performances.
The Archies (2023)
Innocent And Childish
The film is based on the fictional American music band Archies, and hence, the idea of setting the story in an Anglo-Indian town is good. The writers have transplanted the story to the experiences of the Anglo-Indian community in the 1960s. We get a mix of accents, hairstyles and personal histories. The Archies is a musical film and hence, it is essential that the songs must be good. Rightly so, the film has a beautiful album. Every song is superbly composed and presented on the screen.
However, the main flaw of 'The Archies' lies in its central conflict. On paper, the gang uniting to rescue 'Green Park,' threatened by development, seemed promising. Yet, in execution, it falls short of expectations.
Coming to the star-kids, they are okay at the best. They don't really shine through but their characters are flat too and not the most emotive. Suhana Khan does appear to fit the bill of the rich diva, Veronica, as does Khushi Kapoor of the nice and kind Betty Cooper. Agastya Nanda is the happy-go-lucky Archie who is in love with both Veronica and Betty. The one person who does shine in the cohort is Vedang Raina. Vedang truly steals the show with his remarkable screen presence.
The Archies can make for a cozy Christmas watch, easy on the eyes and heart. The world is on fire right now and watching beautiful people dancing around in beautiful clothes is exactly what we all need.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Chapters: Special 2 (2023)
One of The Greatest
Attack on Titan is the most intricate and well-crafted piece I have ever come across. Its first season serves as a blueprint for creating a complex, meticulously planned series. Attack on Titan is a masterpiece that takes you on an emotional roller-coaster. From the thrilling plot twists to the intricately crafted characters. It'll have you on the edge of your seat from the very first episode. Set in a world where mankind is locked inside walls to protect themselves from towering human-eating giants, the colossal walls that serve as humanity's last line of defense against the Titans are a constant reminder of how precarious their existence is. The visual depictions of these towering giants - with their grotesque facial features and eerie movements - add to the dark and suspenseful atmosphere of the series, drawing you into its world.
As the narrative progresses, the secrets of the Titans' origins and the world's true nature begin to reveal themselves, creating an atmosphere of intrigue that leaves viewers wanting more. Careful pacing ensures that each plot point is well-executed, allowing the story to gradually unfold toward an explosive conclusion. Animation and visual design Attack on Titan is a delight to behold. The animation captures the characters' movements perfectly, especially during those heart-stopping vertical battles. From the city within the walls to the lush forest outside to the eerie scenes of the Titan encounters, everything is beautifully animated.
The characters are a big part of what makes it so great. They all feel super real, even the minor ones who don't stick around long. But Eren? He's probably my favorite protagonist ever. No, - he's my favorite character, period. There's something about his journey, his determination, and how he evolves that just resonates with me. Alongside Eren, his childhood friend Mikasa and Armin bring warmth and companionship to the table. Attack on Titan's character development is one of the show's strengths. Of course other than that trio, you have Zeke, Reiner, Annie , Levi, Erwin.. I could go on and on. They each have their place in the show and they perfect the role. Fantastic characters to commend a fantastic show.
The ending of Attack on Titan is perfect because of humanity's imperfections. Humans are complicated and conflicted. There is either simply no reason or explanation as to why people do the things they do. How do you get over the ending of the show you love the most? You don't. The loneliness and emptiness swell up within you, and you find yourself wondering how you will fill the hole that this show left you with. The answer, however, is to keep moving forward.
Animal (2023)
Top Class Acting, World Class Action
In the cinematic landscape of the past 5 to 7 years, this movie stands as a beacon of originality amidst a sea of formulaic productions. Breaking free from the recycled narratives, it's a refreshing sip of new wine in an industry often pouring old ones into new bottles. Amidst the exceptions like Bahubali and KGF, this film emerges as a paragon of authenticity. Witnessing moments of emotional intensity, it could be deemed one of the most emotionally charged films to date. The film's pacing is a tale of two halves, with the first delivering entertainment and intensity, while the second gains fervor upon Bobby Deol's entry. Sandeep Reddy Vanga's audacious storytelling steals the spotlight, cementing "Animal" as a standout in this year's cinematic landscape. The amount of violence in this movie is overwhelming in a good way, the blood and gore is not for the faint hearted, definitely a benchmark.
Ranbir Kapoor's fantastic performance and transitions set this violent revenge saga on fire hands down. Ranbir Kapoor's stellar performance solidifies his position as the superstar of Indian cinema. AK is excellent in the confrontational scenes and Bobby looks menacing, but both have very little to do. Rashmika did a good job. A must-watch for those seeking a gripping and well-crafted film. Highly Recommended.
Jaane Jaan (2023)
Well Crafted
Jaane Jaan is an impressive thriller that stays close to its characters and reveals the twists as a character driven decision. The story does not beat around the bush to establish the characters' routine for too long. The critical event, the murder, happens in the very first act of the movie, and the focus is very much on the investigation done by Inspector Karan Anand. The master cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhyay (Pink, October, Sardar Udham) brings the gloomy, dreary Kalimpong to life with its fog being reminiscent of the blurriness the film's narrative portrays.
Jaideep Ahlawat, the mathematician, is the star of the film. His dialogue delivery and that soft smile are enough to make him seem mysterious. His lingo is muted yet perfect, realistic yet extraordinary. Kareena Kapoor is no doubt a terrific performer, and she brought all her experience to the table. Vijay Varma, as the flirty cop Karan, is just flowing with confidence.
Jaane Jaan is a compelling thriller which keeps you glued to the A perfect moody thriller, more like an ode to how believable and twisted crime dramas are made with simplicity and art.
Jawan (2023)
Lacklustre Execution
This so called fast-paced thriller is a jumbled mess of clichés, with a plot so thin that it makes a sheet of paper look substantial. The film seems to cater exclusively to a younger audience, leaving older viewers scratching their heads in confusion.
It's as if the script was written by a computer program that pieced together random action sequences and dialogue from other, better films.
The pacing is relentless, but not in a good way. It's a dizzying, disorienting whirlwind that never allows the audience to catch their breath or connect with the characters. There is a solid message to the society in the movie, but it has not been told much effectively. Movie fails to live up to the hype, owing to its deficient script, disjointed narrative, and lackluster execution.
Jailer (2023)
Lacklustre Second Half
It is good to see Superstar Rajinikanth in a solid role after a long time. His characterization is well designed by Nelson. Rajinikanth underplays for the most part of the first half, and he transforms into a menacing force as the film progresses. This has been superbly shown. The story of 'Jailer' has shades of Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram'. The two films are about a father going to any lengths for their sons, even if it means taking on a criminal gang. The initial portions of Jailer have Rajinikanth attempting black comedy. While the comedy works in some parts, it also falls flat in many places.
The first half was engaging due to the humor and histrionics of Rajini, but the second half failed to carry the same momentum. Sunil's characterization and the portions involving Tamannaah don't add much value to the film.
Performances -
Rajinikanth not only portrays a role that suits his age but also delivers an exceptional performance. While the performance of Rajinikanth is an asset to 'Jailer', it is also Anirudh Ravichander, who acts as a solid pillar of support for the film. His thumping background score will make you enjoy Rajinikanth's swag. Vinayakan, as the big baddie Varma, is a fun character. All the comedy and fear comes out of him, and is written quite nicely. Jackie Shroff is wasted in a small role.
Overall, It presents a regular action drama with an impressive beginning and a lack of impact in the second half but a hitting end.

Dasara (2023)
Gritty Action Drama
Srikanth Odela is a debutant filmmaker, but he is a promising talent. With Dasara, he has built a semi-fictional world and has successfully transported us to the village of Veerapally. The power dynamics in the village of Veerapally keep you hooked. The film's cinematography is the first thing that stands out because the film is entirely set in a coal mine. The dark color palette of the color scheme works so well with Sooryan's imaginative camera work.
Nani is outstanding in his role as Dharani. His rustic makeover and massive massy transformation are major highlights of the film. Keerthy Suresh is impressive in his village belle role. Her dialogue delivery adds a realistic tone to the proceedings. Dheekshith Shetty is no lesser than the other two leads. His performance is quite natural. Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko gets a good role and he justifies it with his impressive performance.
Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023)
Heartwarming Love Story
Director Sameer Vidwans's screenplay moves fast in first-half and keeps the audience in splits with some tongue-in-cheek Gujju humour and dialogues mouthed by Kartik Aaryan.
The best part of the movie is its performance and the concept it touches upon through a love story. This film is hard-hitting, poignant and delivers a strong message. While doing so, the narrative often drags with scenes that don't make the best use of the talents at hand.
Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani are a great on-screen pair. But in 'Satyaprem Ki Katha' despite the earnestness in Kartik's eyes in many moments, Kiara steals the show from the start. Her screen presence in the film is staggering. Kiara delivers a fine performance in a complex role, by far the best of her career. Gajraj Rao and Supriya Pathak are, well, effortless and adorable all at once. The songs composed by multiple composers are mostly melodious.
Satyprem Ki Katha is driven by its need to preach and give a message. The subject does move you and leaves you with much to think about.
Khakee: The Bihar Chapter (2022)
Simple And Straightforward
Khakee is a real-life inspired crime thriller written and created by Neeraj Pandey which is set in the Sheikhpura district of Bihar. The story is simple and straightforward and does not dramatise the plot too much.
The series gives a refreshing start to Karan Tacker, a well-known face in TV serials. Plus, the casting of Abhimanyu Singh in a positive role is both different and bold. But Avinash Tiwary as Chandan Mohta definitely steals the show. The actor just lived in the role and did complete justice to the show. His body language, dialogue delivery, and looks were apt. Beside the terrific star cast, the series should receive high praise for another reason; though the series is based on the gangster genre, it has almost no cuss words, and no obscenity.
There is no plot twist or surprise factor in the show, but it does deliver a simple crime vs police drama. The straightforward storytelling and powerful performances of the star cast make this web series a good watch despite its flaws.
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023)
Kisi ki Jaan Lega Bhai Jaan
Everyone is aware that this movie is an official remake of the Tamil blockbuster, Veeram (2014). However, the story of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is altered a bit. The story lacks novelty, and one can easily predict the outdated script. Farhad Samji's writing is lazy and does not have strong emotions in the film. They are so many scenes that do not fit into the narrative. Looks like the script has been altered so much according to the mood of Salman Khan. The connectivity between the scenes is not established well. The climax portion is so outdated, and the director could have written and executed it better.
The only 2 people who acted better were Satish Kaushik and Pooja Hegde. They seemed like natural with their acting. Salman was over acting and boring.
Bhediya (2022)
Fun Ride
Amar Kaushik, the director of Bhediya brings a fantastic novel idea to his horror universe. Amar's direction is crisp and magical, it automatically teleports you to the horror and scarier world but his touch of humour only makes it an entertaining watch. The storyline is novel but it also gave a strong social message to the audience.
VFX of the film is very important and it's done very well. The scene where Dhawan's character shapeshifts into a wolf is well executed and ups the excitement.
Varun Dhawan as Bhaskar shines in the movie. Varun plays to his strengths and does well. Kriti as Dr. Anika has a limited role, but she lives up to that. Abhishek Banerjee as JD, is phenomenal and probably the best thing to happen to Bhediya. His comic timing was bang on.
Overall, Bhediya delivers on its promise of ambition, scale while balancing the act of giving good jump scares, comical moments and messaging.
Bloody Daddy (2023)
Fun Watch
The movie begins on a good note, as the plot is established right away in the opening sequence. The characters are nicely introduced, and then we get to see their agendas too. The first hour is pretty much engaging without any dull moments, and also the proceedings are racy here.
While the first half was engrossing, the movie lost steam in the second hour. Sikander and his henchmen do not seem menacing enough for the viewer to believe that Atharv is in any real danger. The final song could have been avoided altogether. There is a heavy dosage of action without any emotion.
It is Shahid Kapoor's show all the way. The terrific actor unleashes the beast in him, and he is just spectacular in the action episodes. Ronit Roy is a scene stealer, and he proves that once again. Here, he is devilish, he is villainous, he is evil and yet there is certain likeability that you would want to see him onscreen. Rajeev Khandelwal is good as well.
Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai (2023)
Poor Execution
Director Apoorv Singh Karki and writer Deepak wring some drama out of a small-town lawyer coming up against pompous big-city types. The problem is, it's difficult to see Solanki as an underdog. There isn't a single exchange where he doesn't come out on top, whether he's facing his townsperson Sharma (Vipin Sharma) or one of the hired guns. Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai disappoints on multiple levels. With a poor execution and flat writing , the film fails to leave a lasting impression. The fleeting high points are like shooting stars, here one moment, gone the next.
Bandaa is a film that relies solely on Manoj Bajpayee's performance. He utilizes his screen time to give Solanki a sense of depth, as we see him being so vulnerable in the face of immeasurable danger. Vipin Sharma plays a worthy opponent to Bajpayee. It is Adrija Roy's portrayal of Nu that shines, even in front of an ace actor like Bajpayee.
The Legend (2022)
Miserable
The movie is mounted on a large scale which is very much evident on the screen. Each and every frame looks very rich and the makers have spent a bomb on the film. The protagonist is a bold man of great resolve who though he would be able to pull it off as a successful lead actor, in which he does partially succeed but ultimately fails due to his odd movements, when he runs or walks fast for instance. Both the female leads Geethika and Urvashi Rautela looked gorgeous and they did a fine job.
The main drawback of the film is its plot. It is very routine and predictable from the initial scene. Neither of the halves makes an impact. Nothing worked well as the execution is quite miserable.

Movie - 6 + 1(Music Album)
Early on, the film has the lightheartedness of a typical romantic comedy. The beginning is a little slow, but things pick up once Shraddha Kapoor enters the picture, and the flirtatious romance between the lead pair is entertaining. The attractive couple makes up for the often tedious monologues. What makes Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar more enjoyable is the beautiful family drama that is woven into a love story. The movie stays true to its genre, and at the same time, a neat family emotion runs in the background. These two elements are nicely balanced in the second half, and the film runs on a faster note in this hour. The conflict point between the lead pair is relevant and throws light on modern-day relationships.
A talented actor like Ranbir Kapoor was essential to the plot. From the opening to the closing credits, he carries the entire movie on his back. Ranbir is at the top of his game and completely charming. Shraddha has appeared in her hottest avatar till date and the role perfectly suits her. The expressions, the nuances are perfectly portrayed by her. Dimple Kapadia, an elderly actress, always commands attention whenever she appears in a film. As is customary, the movie's opening sequence bursts onto the screen with the most action and tension. The first-scene action makes it possible for viewers to fixate on the screen the entire time. It was the best in the franchise so far, I was actually surprised with how much plot was in this movie and there seemed to be more importance focused on the story. The acting was better than any of the other 3. For any fast and the furious fans this is not a let down but another awesome film.
