I think this is the worst movie I've seen in my entire life.
I know the TV series and I like watching it with my kids. It's reasonably good but this movie is perfectly ridiculous.
The reason is simple: only one guy is director, writer of the scenario and the songs. That's the French bad way of making movies (coucou Luc Besson). It's impossible for only one person to have all those talents. I believe Jeremy Zag is a good director, but the script and the songs are very bad.
Ah... the songs. What a strange idea to add them. They are all so mellow, cheesy. The lyrics are very bad, the choregraphies are non-sense... the audience in the theater was teared between exasperation and laughters for each of them (including my 3 kids) . Not a very good sign.
You can easily wait until this movie is available on the VOD platforms instead of spending 50 euros (for a family of 5).

Astonishing performance from lead actor Alexandre Wetter and quite good cast around him. I enjoyed this movie with my 12 and 14 years old daughters, despite the plot being a little caricatural and not plausible on certain "details" (the way the Miss France TV show is organized for instance).
There's some fun, but it's more a drama than a comedy.
I really recommend this movie.
I got really really bored by this movie. It's waaaaaayyyyy too long. The music is excellent, though very repetitive. The shots are beautiful - you often feel like you're looking at a Vermeer's painting. The actors are great (excellent idea to have Depardieu father and son playing old and young Marin Marais). But the plot stands on a napkin and the movie could last only 1 hour instead of almost 2. Moreover the sound of speech is very low and you simply don't understand half of the (few) sentences (I'm French).
