Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
If Superman Legacy is half as good as this, I'm team DC
Guardians of the Galaxy 1 was one of my favourite MCU films. It was silly, funny, but also had characters that had enough depth that you felt something. The sequel was similar but not quite as good.
Volume 3 to me was similar to 1 except we have about a decade of build up totalling 7 MCU appearances and back story galore. They feel like family to me at this point and so that's what made this farewell of a film so emotional. It has the humour we know, but depth and emotion well beyond anything I think we have seen in the MCU so far. The first official F-bomb is perfectly placed in such a casual way which makes it even more effective.
Guardians volume 3 is now one of my favourite MCU entries and I am looking forward to THE DCU with Gunn and expect Superman legacy to be amazing. Marvel over the last couple of years has been very disappointing and they have definitely dropped the ball. That's another reason why I think Guardians 3 feels so good!
The Burned Photo (2021)
One of the better horror stories in recent years
I'm a pretty avid horror fan from the 80's and get pretty disappointed with a majority of what's released today. I'm always surprised when I watch or read (in this case listen to) something that is actually creepy without being too corny or bordering on torture porn.
Burned photo is quite good, pretty creepy and has its scary moments. The quality of the audio play is fantastic and voice actors and effects very convincing. The show gets better as you learn more and more. Really enjoying it and highly recommend.
Doctor Who: Flux: Chapter Six - The Vanquishers (2021)
Garbage, so long Chibbers!! Bring on RTD!
This episode was a convoluted mess. It tried to do too much and ended up being boring somehow with so much going on. I didn't mind a couple of the episodes this season, but as a whole the entire Flux saga was a mess with pacing issues as per Chibnalls other seasons.
I didn't mind Jodie, but the trash scripts she had ruined her doctor unfortunately.
I would be done with Doctor Who if it wasn't for RTD coming back. I have high hopes but the bar is set super low and so it can't be worse than the Chibnall era.
Twelve Minutes (2021)
More than 12 minutes of original fun.
12 minutes starts off with an interesting top-down view of an apartment foyer. The tutorial and game mechanics are offered by navigating down the hallway to your apartment door and opening it. The controls and gameplay are a very straight forward click and drag system which is very intuitive.
The graphics are quite nice for the style and suits the story and gameplay. It is nothing special though and no use of ray tracing or any particularly breathtaking visuals. The voice cast were great and this is no surprise considering the three main actors were James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem DaFoe. No expense spared in the casting department which helps with the immersion.
The game revolves around your tiny apartment with your wife and is played out in real time with a maximum of 12 minutes through any given time loop. Each time someone dies or the current story is played out the story is rewound back to the start of the 12 minutes and the loop starts again.
Whilst it does sound extremely monotonous, each play through gives you more information and answers in order to use that newly acquired information to go forward the loop after and it continues until you are able to solve the mystery and get one or several of the many endings. I thought the story was excellent and was not disappointed.
I can see how some people may be turned off by the repetitiveness of running through the same scene and dialogue over and over again, but for me this was the interesting part. It wasn't until I was attempting achievements that it started to feel a bit grindy.
I had an absolute blast searching for new ways to gather more information and get closer to the end and thought it was a very clever way for a point and click puzzle/adventure game if you would even call it that. This was one of my favourite games in a long time and I can't wait for Annapurna Interactive to try something similar in a new release. I would definitely be playing on launch that's for sure!
Rick and Morty: A Rickconvenient Mort (2021)
My least favourite ep in the series
What if Captain Planet was a liberal extremist. Meh. The Rick and Summer side plot was uninteresting and not funny. Hoping next ep is better.
The Affair: Episode #5.11 (2019)
Wow, up there with Six Feet Under's finale.
I rarely ever write reviews, but felt it necessary after watching this. One of the best series finales along side Six feet Under. Fantastic ending and great way of showing you the future of some of the characters youngest and oldest.
