Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
I don't know what story they were attempting to tell here.
There are going to be people who really like this movie and that's fine. It's probably going to go on and make a lot of money over the weekend and that's cool. I wish I could have enjoyed it more but when it was over all I could think was..."Eh".
I don't know what the hell story they were trying to tell with this. The movie felt like a bunch of mini storylines attempting to come together as one in the end and failing to do so.
The movie also had too many characters that didn't need to be here. Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci immediately come to mind. Bellucci is wasted as Beetlejuice's wife and Willem Dafoe's dead actor now detective character wasn't necessary at all.
I think this movie would have been better off just focusing on Winona Ryder and her daughter and them having to call on Beetlejuice for help after she was tricked by the boy in the treehouse.
I'd give it a 3. Shame because Michael Keaton can still play the role, the script just let him down unfortunately.
Trap (2024)
It's a Trap alright ...
And the director set it!
He lured everyone in under the guise that this is a suspense-thriller with some wild twist at the end.
Instead what you get is an hour and a half audition tape for his daughters music and I guess acting career. And now you're trapped in the theater having to listen to her awful music and watch her terrible acting.
No, but really I think this movie was only made for the director to try to set his daughter up in Hollywood. This movie was pointless. By the time it got to the end and the credits began, all I could think was...why? What was the point of this?
Nothing happens at the concert. They make it to "The Butcher's" home and nothing happens. The wife makes a reveal but even then it was lightweight and didn't mean anything.
Watching this reminded me of the movie "Red Eye" where the trailers made it look like it was going to be something and it turned out to be nothing really. Unless this really does somehow set up the daughters musical career but I doubt it.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
This really should have been Bad Boys 3...
Because Bad Boys for Life sucked!
No it's not as good as Bad Boys 2 or even Bad Boys 1 but I didn't go in thinking it would be. I didn't even think the movie would be good at all really.
But I was surprised.
The action is better in this one. Martin still really isn't funny but he's past his comedic prime honestly. This one isn't totally a Will Smith ego trip like the last one.
There are some nice callbacks, some nice surprises. One that features a certain character in a scene stealing moment that sent the theater into uproar. There's a death of a certain character which I didn't agree with and didn't really need to happen. The villain or villains were lame. The ending was flat and there were way too many characters involved in the ending. But these directors do do some pretty cool camera tricks, especially in the end that look straight out of a video game.
That's about all I could think of, good movie but feels like a shell of the real Bad Boys. It's hard not to think of what these movies could be with Michael Bay still directing. Even with Martin and Will being older.
The Fall Guy (2024)
Waste of Time.
I didn't really have any expectations for this movie. I only went to go see it because I was bored, had free tickets and wanted some movie theater popcorn really.
Before the movie starts, both the director and Ryan Gosling pop up to tell you this movie is a love letter to the stuntmen who work in the film industry. It is not...at all.
This movie is boring and Ryan Gosling plays a character that we've seen in these action movies, a billion times before. The wise cracking, never take anything really too serious, good guy who ends up saving the day at the end. But this movie kinda throws a curve ball because there isn't much action. They overload you with this boring romance storyline between Ryan Gosling and Emily "pass the" Blunt, which is what this movie is really all about. I couldn't care less about it.
I've never seen the TV show that this movie is supposedly based on, but I bet it's nothing like this movie. Hollywood really doesn't care about the stunt men in the movie industry if this is really a love letter to them. You'd be better of just saving your money and waiting until this movie hits streaming.
Thanksgiving (2023)
Decent.
Pretty much your typical horror movie that you get these days. The focus isn't really on the scares but more so on how gross the movie can get and this one gets pretty gross. I guess it's supposed to make you laugh also, I found myself laughing at some of the kills because they were so ridiculous. Especially in the opening scene. There were some things I was hoping to see make it into this movie that were in the Grindhouse trailer but unfortunately they didn't.
Towards the end everything starts moving fast. I wish the dinner table scene would have lasted a little longer but it's like the director seen he only had 15 mins. Left and sped through everything. The reveal was lackluster, and the killer was a little lackluster. The conflict is resolved to quick (or not at all). Some of the characters that were prevalent throughout the movie just pop back up at the end. And the very last scene wasn't needed and then a quick cut to the credits.
I enjoyed the movie besides how quickly everything got wrapped up towards the end.
The Boogeyman (2023)
Couldn't wait for it to end.
Boring and a waste of time.
This was actually worse than the 2005 "Boogeyman" movie. I don't even know why this movie was called "The Boogeyman" as it wasn't even really a man, more of a creature. It looked like some creature from "A Quite Place" that got lost and ended up in this little girl's closet.
I don't even think we learned what it was or where it came from. Just that it'll make mold grow in your house and it has two baby arms that come out of it's mouth when it's about ready to kill you. That's it!
I was hoping this would be good, better than the 05' version but it's not. I heard this was supposed to go on Hulu instead of to the theaters and that's exactly where it belongs. Buried somewhere under Hulu's horror tab.
Barbarian (2022)
An Overhyped Mess
I am amazed at how many good reviews this movie has because this movie was awful. I almost fell asleep on it and I've never done that during a horror movie. If you are reading this and you have not seen this movie yet, please do not buy into the hype that is being sold around this movie.
I've seen this get compared to The Exorcist, Evil Dead, Jeepers Creepers and a ton of other BETTER horror films. When in all actuality this movie is more like someone who seen Don't Breathe and went "you know what would have been better if they had".... and this movie was made.
The movie started off well and then just went all the way downhill especially when Justin Long's character shows up and transitions the movie from a horror to a comedy and kills the atmosphere and tension that was being built.
You don't need to see this with a crowd, there is no hooting and hollering moments here, but there are a lot of dumb decisions being made by the main character. There are also things that are not explained or given enough back story to which is always frustrating. The movie ends flat and I most definitely walked out thinking wtf did I just watch but for all the wrong reasons. My advice would be to tamper your expectations and expect to see a very mediocre "horror" film.
The Black Phone (2021)
Eh....
Young kids cussing at adults has not and never will be funny or entertaining.
Ethan Hawke could have been in this movie a little more than what he was. He was good here.
Take your time and climb up to the window and use the toilet seat to smash out the window, escape.
Earthquake: Legendary (2022)
DON'T YOU DARE SPEAK ILL ABOUT TRUMP!!!
Whew! Trump supporters can give it but can't take it. Don't you ever speak ill about Trump. I doubt many of them even knew who Earthquake was until they saw this Dave Chappelle endorsed special on Netflix. Anyways, Earthquake's set here was decent it's definitely not his best but I had a few laughs. Hopefully Dave keeps this up with more veteran comics.
Bel-Air (2022)
Alright so far.
Didn't have high hope's for this and thought a reboot of Fresh Prince was pointless but here we are. I gave it a shot and it honestly isn't that bad. I knew coming in that it wasn't a comedy like the original. I thought everyone was aware of that but judging from some of these bad reviews I guess not. Speaking of which some of these bad reviews sound like they are either coming from a bot or one person with multiple accounts. They keep saying the same thing, "race" or "sToP RuiNinG My CHiLdhOoD". It's not that serious folks. The show is fine so far. Oh and the Aunt Viv in this is fine as hell. That's all.
No Time to Die (2021)
Black Bond???
Yeah so James Bond dies at the end of this.
A fleet of missiles rain down on him and blow him to pieces. You even see him standing there as the missiles hit. It left me wondering when I left the movie theater "Why did they kill off James Bond, and why in such a definitive way"? "The end credits said James Bond will return". Then it hit me as I was driving home.
That was the end of this James Bond, white James Bond. The new James Bond will be black. That's why this James Bond died and died the way he did. They could have easily let Craig's Bond ride off into the sunset with his daughter but no, they want there to be no doubt that this rendition of James Bond is gone for good. What better time than now to wipe the slate clean and bring in black Bond, they are already doing a black Superman...why not.
I don't know how many people will actually care about this. I don't know if people will think this is a good or bad thing but I'm certain that's where they are going next.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
The actors did a good job...
The kids are hell bent on trying to get themselves and everyone around them killed.
The son steps in a bear trap early on because he's not paying attention, almost gets his mother, the baby and sister killed.
The mother has to go out and find medical supplies for his injury and has him stay and watch the baby. He couldn't even do that, he leaves the baby, ends up making noise and again almost gets the mother, himself, and the baby killed.
The deaf daughter tries to go off and be a hero because that's what she figures her daddy would have done. The main character has to go and find her because the mother throws a guilt trip on him. The daughter is almost killed until he saves her last minute.
I felt for the main character because he was fine until this lady and her kids showed up. The kids end up saving the day at the end though because of course they would. I guess this is supposed to set up a third but besides money, why make a third?
This one told us nothing about the monsters, where the came from, nothing. All we know is they can't swim.
I still can't get over the fact that these people decided to have a baby when they KNEW they had to be quiet.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Get new writers.
Predictable from the very beginning. These were the same writers who wrote Jigsaw which was easily predictable but less than this film somehow. It was so easy to tell that Chris Rock's rookie partner was behind everything, it was almost laughable. Soon as he showed up on screen and begin talking I could tell it was him. I kept hoping to be thrown off but in the end that wasn't the case. With Saw X just being announced, the studio needs to go with new writers or bring back the old ones. The way this one ends, where the hell do you go now? Chris Rock's character knows who this guy is. I felt they kind of botched the ending. The strings holding Sam Jackson should have ripped him apart as SWAT was entering the room and then they should have shot Chris Rock while he ran in from the side. The rookie shuts the door to the elevator and laughs "Game over". The rest of the movie was fine. The traps weren't that interesting and it's different not having the presence of you know who and his puppet.
Joker (2019)
No "masterpiece" here.
I don't know why this movie is called Joker, it isn't really about the Joker. It is a movie about a man named Arthur who has mental issues and is constantly being s*** on by society. He has a job as a clown and loses that due to a jerk co worker and after that life just continues to go to hell for Arthur. Around about the last 15 mins of the movie, Arthur paints his face, dyes his hair green and I guess this is when he is supposedly the Joker now but all I was seeing was Arthur in face paint fully having lost his mind now.
This movie was not needed, I went in with low expectations because I felt, much like Venom last year, this film wasn't really needed and it didn't tell an interesting enough story about the Joker. It's really just about an anorexic guy with mental problems who likes to parade around his apartment in nothing but his underwear and break out into a dance routine every five minutes. Then he becomes a lukewarm Joker in the last 15 mins. of the movie. So if that sounds interesting, then you will love this "masterpiece".
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Wow...
Uh...Oh man. I don't really know where to even begin with this.
I'm not a Star Wars fan. I like the Star Wars movies but I don't really consider myself a fan. I haven't read the books, the comics, watched the cartoons, played the video games or seen the movies a bunch of times. So after seeing this, I can only imagine how a die hard Star Wars fan must feel.
To express my thoughts on this movie correctly I have to add spoilers so...SPOILER ALERT!!!
Ok. this movie is not good. It's actually really boring. Which is what I never thought I would say when talking about a Star Wars movie (unless it's Rogue One).
A few years ago "The Amazing Spider-Man" was released and I remember the tagline for that movie was "The untold story" which was set to reveal the background on Peter Parker's parents. Just by watching the first film I could tell that the writers had no ideal where they were going with that and there was no untold story. Just a bunch of bull to try to sell movie tickets to a failing franchise.
The same thing has been done here with Star Wars: The Last Jedi (though it's not a failing franchise...yet). The Force Awakens set up some interesting questions like who are Rey's parents? Why has Luke Skywalker vanished? Who is Snoke? Why is Rey so special? Well...like The Amazing Spider-Man the writers here had no ideal where they were going with any of that.
Who are Rey's parents? NOBODY IT DOESN'T MATTER! Why has Luke Skywalker vanished? HE READ KYLO REN'S DESTINY WRONG! Who is Snoke? WHO CARES! HE'LL BE DEAD BEFORE EPISODE 9! Why is Rey so special? BECAUSE SHE JUST IS! Where are these movies going? When Disney decided to start a new Star Wars trilogy they should have had an outline of all three movies and what they wanted to do with them. This movie is overly long and boring and like Rogue One it didn't even feel like I was watching a Star Wars movie with dumb moments like the casino scene.
Rogue One (2016)
Horrible
SPOILERS
A Luke warm, non threatening version of Darth Vader in a bad costume with bad mannerisms with a voice I'm not so sure is even James Earl Jones.
A bad music score that sounds like something made for an original SyFy movie.
Unlikeable characters, every single one of them. When you are wishing the good guys get killed off then something is wrong here.
Bad cgi, especially for Leia, her eyes were on her forehead.
Just a terrible, terrible movie, with a plot that really goes no where. Very boring, even the so called action scenes, nothing is really happening here. This movie was a waste, a 2 and a half hour movie about stealing plans for a death star? Really? This movie should have been about an hour. But that's Disney for you. About to milk this franchise dry just like they are doing with Marvel. This didn't even feel like a Star Wars film. It felt like a sequel to The Fifth Element or something.
