While KILL ME AGAIN indeed has an interesting core to itself, one can't help but notice a few crucial deficiencies that held it back from becoming a great little film.
First of all, the script would have needed some revision. With so many pages, it wouldn't have been a bad idea to cut away some of the repetitive fat, streamlining the plot a bit.
Also, while the direction at times was competent, at other times it just devolved into amateur filmmaking: crude violations of the 180 degree rule, stunningly bad shot decisions and some camera operating that delivers some frustratingly bad framing, combined with some clumsy direction of the otherwise good actors.
The importance of good sound editing cannot be overstated. While going unnoticed when done right, bad dialogue editing and sound design have a devastating effect on the quality of a film, and here, some of the mistakes are absolutely unacceptable. Audible drops in ambience when cutting away and unintelligible dialogue because of noise reduction cannot be excused.
All this is really too bad, because with a bit more competence, all of this could have easily been avoided, and KILL ME AGAIN would have been quite the enjoyable experience. As it is, it's mostly a drag and a painful experience, considering the missed opportunity.
Good to see Brendan Fehr again, though.
