So many of the intricate details of the book are missing from this movie. Mainly it's lack of soul. It just can't live up to the source material, and I'm not sure if it was a conscious effort to stray so far but it ruined what could and should have been a great movie.
While some of the story obviously deviates from the original work, all in all it was quite as faithful to the source material as could be expected. Now I'm hoping there's an adaptation of one of his other novels "Turtles all the way down"
That being said this is an absolutely splendid movie. A great cast top to bottom. I read another review on here stating Asa Butterfield shines in this role, well that's a bit of an understatement. He was PHENOMENAL. Maisie Williams was sheer PERFECTION. I'm not sure if she could have been any better. She's going to be a theatrical force to be reckoned with for years to come. And as if they were enough, you get Ken Jeong, Titus Burgess, David Koechner and Tyler Hoechlin. Just a great ensemble cast and a story with a ton of heart and emotion.
