I have been looking forward to this movie most of the year. PTA directed some of my favorite movies, including there will be blood. However, I have not been in love with his movies since that masterpiece. That doesn't mean I dont like his more recent offerings, just not in awe after watching them. So when this came out starring some of my favorite actors including benicio del toro, and promised action (a favorite genre of mine when done well) it sounded like a win win win. I even like thomas pinchon who's 1990 novel inspired the story. Pinchon was also the basis for PTA's inherent vice, another movie of his that just didn't click for me. So speaking of clicking this movie did click for me. I liked it a lot. Im just not in awe of it, like I was with there will be blood or boogie nights. I love that it felt like a mix of a Tarantino flick, sicario, with a true homage to the big lebowski thrown in. I loved the pointless yet very Tarantino grind house pot growing bad ass nuns. I love the very odd and secretive, as well as massively powerful Christmas adventurers also giving it a little nod to movies from the 70s like the eiger sanction. But once again it was just good, and at times a bit too self indulgent, which is how I felt about phantom thread. So maybe I need to watch this 2.5 hour flick again. It is cool and fun and smart and weird, maybe the next time I watch it ill see it as the instant classic others see.

This show got canceled after 2 great seasons. This show is hilarious. I love the charlie sheen guest appearances showing chuck lorre and him either made up or never stopped being friends. It is so hard to find an edgy comedy that works on a lot of levels, and this did. Sometimes I just dont get why shows get cancelled, but they do even though I think it just needed to find its audience. I hope Lorre doesn't give up and produces it for another network. If not maybe blame the wife character Andrea anders, this is her second really good show that got the corporate ax way too early (better off ted being the other). Oh and the running gag in the second season with the private eye was just awesome and made me laugh soooo hard.
