  • Life at Kansas City's "Majestic" theatre

Like all movie palaces of this size in this day and eons ago, life behind the "Snak Bar" (and in the projection booth)were very similar to this mini episode series released in the spring of 1987-which at that time I was (and still am) employed in such a movie theatre.

This series represents how close (and sometimes distant) the employees were - having great friendships and also some competitive battles, yet in a whole, they learn to work as a team in helping out what is needed to be done. But, sometimes theatre staff can be better actors and actresses of "Payton Place" than what was on the stage at times with the "theatre drama" that can arise in certain situations.

The manager is the "parent" figure (and sometimes the 'baby-sitter'): He has to set the tone and image for the theatre-nobody would dare get in the manager's way in a perfect operation, since he was under extreme pressure from the theatre owner(s).

Yes, been there and still doing that in all phases in theatre operations and it's interesting to see a lot of parallelism between this series and the real theatre operation (but the projectionists weren't as weird as Martin, but sometimes were extremely eccentric and suffering from a bad case of monomania).
