I have been a TV addict since I was 3 (in the late 50s). We didn't have a color set until 1968.

Our town had an early form of cable called "community antenna", which used a tower on top of a mountain to receive programming from Birmingham, AL, Huntsville, AL, and Atlanta, GA. Since we lived near the point where the line came down from the mountain, our family was one of the first in town to have this service. At the time, there were no satellite feeds. All we had was content on channels 2-13.

One of the more interesting advantages was seeing the news an hour early from Atlanta. Channel 17 from Atlanta, which eventually was built by Ted Turner into the Superstation TBS, allowed us to see great reruns, the Atlanta Braves, and occasional quirky programs.

I have also loved movies from an early age. Back during my childhood days, the fun of having a "short feature" (cartoon) before the main show was an expected treat. I came to love most all cartoons: Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies, and Woody Woodpecker on the big screen. By the time I was about five, Saturday mornings were jam-packed with everything from older to the latest cartoons. I also liked full-length animated features such as "Fantasia".

Studios like Hanna-Barbera were making limited animation shows for TV. I got hooked on the Jetsons, since around that time everyone foresaw a bright, fun future filled with robots, flying cars, and talking computers (nearly sentient at that!).

I don't know who screwed the whole deal up, but we are into the 21st century and I want to know where my flying car, personal jet pack, robot assistant, automatic meal machine, and 20-hour work week went!? At least I finally have my 46" flat screen digital TV!

My next "future obsession" was "Lost in Space". I was locked on to the travels of the Jupiter II, the Robinsons, Robot Class M-3 Model B9, Don West, and the mischievous "Dr. Smith".

Soon after, my dad and I started watching this new show, "Star Trek". My friend Art and I later watched reruns and imagined all sorts of things that might or might not ever be possible. From that point on, I've been a space- and science-fiction fanatic. We just recently finished all of "Firefly", and are working our way through the newer "Battlestar Galactica". I saw the original series during its first run.

I often quote Warner Brothers cartoons as a signature, each tailored as close to the post as I can get. My favorite character is Marvin the Martian. Back when there were Warner Brothers Studio stores in the mall, I collected Marvin watches and other collectables. One of my all-time favorites is my Marvin Lava lamp.

  • For me, this was a 10 out of 10

Listen carefully.. The way this was done is magic. Do not let anyone give you a hint or look at any spoilers before you watch it. And make sure you watch it all the way because it matters.

There is no doubt in this case you must be patient, pay attention, and rest assured that you'll be greatly rewarded, Grasshopper. Make the extra effort to know who everyone is, even if it seems they're not important. It is a bumpy ride. The pieces of this puzzle are fed to you in a different way, and don't give up too soon. It definitely is not over when you think it is.

There are very bad and not so bad "bad guys." Yes, there are also very good and not good "good guys."

  • Old School Western Style - Well Done.

It goes without saying that Emily Bett Rickards absolutely gets into character no matter who she plays. I can't imagine having to do this movie being so opposite of who she usually is. And that's just one of her many superpowers.

It's nice to see her reunited with her good friend Steven Amell. I was pleasantly surprised as to how they worked him into the story.

I did see a little bit of cynical comment about how it's almost good but not good enough, but I can tell you if you watch it without knowing too much about it before, you can enjoy this one. It's pretty darn realistic and true to the story. Don't let naysayers keep you from giving this one a try. Do understand that it's geared towards adults, so you should review it before you let kids see it. Just balance that with the idea that this shows a little bit more realistic view of just how rough and tough the Wild West was.

  • Good Entertainment the Wrong Way

I was born in the 1950s and love music. Even musical theater in safe doses (my then future wife & I were in our university's "Cabaret", so I suffered the feel of actual greasepaint once). I am unconventional in many ways, best described as I don't think outside the box, there is no box.

Let's be honest - how many of us live in a reality where something that can be said in a few words causes spontaneous singing with a full orchestra involved for several minutes? Still, theater being entertainment and a soothing escape from reality is wonderful.

This marvelous series has been a pleasant surprise for this TOS fan who watched the broadcasts on a B&W TV with my dad. I still love "Koick n Spock" going full gangsta with tongues pushed deep in their cheeks.

But, not this way. Not like this. Starships just don't make good substitutes for Broadway stages. Not even when the singing and music are this great!
