Ignore the low ratings that came from those stupid bots. This show is SICK and so much more than I thought it'd be. I love eastern Asian shows for the fight scenes alone and as far that goes, this does not disappoint. They're expertly choreographed and the filming style (don't know what it's called) where they speed up the action only made it better. It IS reminiscint of Rurouni Kenshin (also loved that) because the main character is a former samurai during the Meiji restoration time period, but this is not Rurouni. Where Rurouni could be goofy at times, this is more serious and goes deeper. What I wasn't expecting was that this isn't just an action show, it's a character study. This show devestates, excites, and uplifts at the same time. The themes running through it are still so relevant today with the haves oppressing the have nots simply because they were no longer relevant and inconvenient to those now in charge. They blamed the poor simply for being poor when the elites put them there in the first place. Come for the action but stay for the feels.
It's music it's racism, it's immigration, it's political, it's oppression, it's religion, it's addiction, it's neurodivergence, it's coming of age, it's family obligations and independence, it's heartbreak and redemption... Everything! And it's done superbly. This show sucked me in and still hasn't spit me out. This was nothing like I expected and I just might re-watch it immediately after I finish it. The acting was on point with only a few moments that were awkward but every show has that. Nicholas Pinnock and Michelle Dockery shine. Watch this. You won't regret it. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I loved.
