KASHF-The Lifting of the Veil
First international English feature film from Pakistan! KASHF chronicles the story of one man's journey towards Sufism, parallel to another man's search for success. Armaghan was born out of an oath his mother made to a Sufi Pir she meets when she was childless. Armaghan returns to Pakistan to discover a lost culture, a mystic religion, and a family secret. His cousin, Ali, also seeks his own calling in the nepotistic film world of Lollywood and becomes engulfed by fantastical musical hallucinations. ALI MACGRAW who saw the film at the Santa Fe Film Festival called it “a huge and impressive accomplishment. I was fascinated to see the many aspects of Pakistan which are not normally accessible to us on our television reportage…a riveting film." REVIEW BY WHIRLEDVIEW OF KASHF: The film Kashf: The Lifting of the Veil is a captivating homage to a Pakistan of tolerance, grace, aspiration and good humor, a Sufi-influenced Pakistan that is tragically under threat today from violent, grimly-puritanical, Saudi-financed salafism. So real and well-publicized is the political black veil of looming Talibanization that most outsiders see Pakistan only in those terms. http://whirledview.typepad.com/whirledview/2009/01/moviegoers-gift-kashf-or-the-lifting-of-the-veil.html 'OFFICIAL SELECTION' SANTA FE FILM FESTIVAL 2008 'BEST EDITING NOMINEE' SANTA FE FILM FESTIVAL 2008 'OFFICIAL SELECTION' CANCUN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2009 KASHF has screened at NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY, STANFORD UNIVERSITY, UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, BROWN UNIVERSITY, TWELVE GATES in PHILADELPHIA, THE NAPOLEAN in WASHINGTON, DC, SANTA FE FILM CENTER, THE GUILD THEATER, SPIRITUAL CINEMA CIRCLE and ATHENS CINEMA.
