IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
A national seminar and needs assessment have been conducted in Honiara, Solomon Islands (10-14 August) to support the facilitation of international maritime traffic and future development of a Maritime Single Window (MSW), for more efficient and coordinated ship clearance.
South Africa has developed a roadmap to establish, strengthen and operationalize its National Maritime Information Sharing Centre (NMISC), during a workshop in Cape Town (3-6 August), held to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance South Africa's contribution to national and regional maritime domain awareness. The roadmap will strengthen South Africa's maritime information-sharing capability while reinforcing the regional Information Sharing Network established under the DCoC/JA.
Women's participation and leadership in maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation in Viet Nam is set to be strengthened, under a new Maritime Sectoral Master Plan, which has been developed for Viet Nam under the IMO–Republic of Korea SMART-C Women Project. The Master Plan, developed in collaboration with the World Maritime University (WMU) and Vietnamese stakeholders, provides a strategic framework to guide Viet Nam's maritime modernization, while embedding gender equality as a cross-cutting theme.
