I’m still in denial that it’s back to school time. Where did the summer go? My kids are a little sad that their play days are over, but are excited to get a new year of learning, friends and teachers underway.
I asked my daughter the other day what she most looks forward to about heading back, and without even blinking, she said, “All the new school supplies!” 🙂 She’s definitely a girl after my own heart.
I admit that I get completely giddy collecting those freshly-sharpened No. 2 pencils, the big pink gum erasers, restocking our scissor supply, and replenishing our colorful marker reserve. It’s like Christmas morning for me (and for my kiddos, apparently). 🙂
Because I have four children and every trip to the store is a chore to say the least, I do a large portion of my shopping online. It’s just so convenient!

Back to school always always helps me realize how blessed my family is and makes me want to help others who aren’t so fortunate. PayPal makes giving so easy! Now, what to do with all those new supplies? I’ve found having a system in place goes a long way in keeping us sane while the kids are doing homework and other school projects. So I put together this organizer using an over-the-door pocket shoe rack.
I love that there are individual compartments designated for each item, which makes clean up a breeze!
To make this, I cut out labels for each supply using my Silhouette machine and the “American Typewriter” font. Next, I removed the excess black vinyl, leaving just the word on the backing, and used clear Con-Tac paper to transfer each of the words onto the pockets. That’s it! Now have a ball filling them up with those fun new art supplies!
Now, instead of having markers and pencils strewn everywhere, we can keep them contained in one central location! The less chaos the better when everyone’s doing a mad rush to get the homework done so they can run off and play. 🙂
