The International Conference on Computer-Human Interaction Research and Applications (CHIRA) aims to bring together professionals, academics, and students interested in advancing research and practical applications of interaction design & human-computer interaction. Four parallel tracks will be held, covering different aspects of Computer-Human Interaction, including Human Factors and Information Systems, Interactive Devices, Interaction Design, and Adaptive and Intelligent Systems.
Papers describing original work on advanced methods, prototypes, systems, tools, and techniques as well as general survey papers indicating future directions are encouraged. Accepted papers will be presented at the conference by one of the authors and published in the Proceedings of CHIRA, which will be placed in at least one Digital Library and sent for indexation by the major international indexes.
Submission topics:
Each of these topic areas is expanded below but the sub-topics list is not exhaustive. Papers may address one or more of the listed sub-topics, although authors should not feel limited by them. Unlisted but related sub-topics are also acceptable, provided they fit in one of the following main topic areas:
1. Human Factors for Interactive Systems, Research, And Applications
2. Interactive Devices
3. Interaction Design
4. Adaptive And Intelligent Systems

The digital transformation of businesses is increasingly under the spotlight, driving fundamental mindset shifts and significantly boosting operational efficiency. Powered by rapid technological innovation and evolving consumer expectations, this transformation is now essential for organizations aiming to remain competitive in today’s dynamic market landscape.
In this context, what are the key impacts of digital technologies on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)? How can organizations create greater value in a rapidly evolving digital environment? These and other relevant questions will be explored through a series of three “Industry 4.0” Tech MeetUps hosted by the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) in Aveiro.
Next session - Blockchain in Industry: Challenges and Opportunities | July 16, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
This session will be conducted by Paulo C. Bartolomeu, currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He completed his PhD in Computer Engineering at the University of Aveiro in 2014 and has participated in several R&D projects, both in academia (ARMONIO, CAMBADA, Smart Green Homes, EV4Energy, COMSOLVE, and BLOCKCHAIN.PT) and in collaboration with industry (CIRaF, DHT-Mesh, BikeEmotion, Living Usability Lab, SheepIT), where he held various roles as R&D Director.
Presentation Topics:
1. Introduction to Blockchain Technology
Blockchain technology is based on a decentralized and immutable digital ledger. Data is recorded by including information in sequential "blocks," forming a verifiable chain that ensures transparency and transaction security, eliminating the need for intermediaries. This segment introduces the fundamental concepts necessary to understand the operating principles of the technology.
2. Applications with DLTs (Distributed Ledger Technologies)
In an increasingly connected world, the authenticity and security of information play a crucial role. Trust, once centralized, now faces growing challenges, finding in Blockchain technology a response to the demand for verifiable data and transactions without a single point of dependence. This section will present various applications of Blockchain technology, demonstrating that it goes beyond its origin in cryptocurrencies and is becoming a pillar in various industries.
3. Research Use Cases
Although blockchain technology offers transformative potential in various sectors and applications, it is crucial to go beyond the hype and critically assess its practical implementation. This section addresses the limitations and challenges inherent in implementing Blockchain technologies across different use cases.
4. Visit at the Embedded Systems Laboratory, hosted at the Institute of Telecommunications, located on the University of Aveiro campus, where visitors will be able to observe the various infrastructures supporting the developed applications and complementary work in the areas of cooperative and connected mobility (CCAM) and IoT.
The visit will feature two demonstrations in the blockchain area: one showcasing the operation of a platform for issuing and verifying credentials on a blockchain, presented by Rafael Gil, a Master’s student in Computer Engineering; and another focused on the lifecycle management of digital twins on a blockchain, presented by Tiago Silvestre, a Master’s student in Cybersecurity. Additionally, elements of the infrastructures that support the research group will be given, as well as the platforms developed to support them.
