M3GAN 2.0 (2025)

M3GAN 2.0 is a wildly fun romp. A24 might be known for making horror high-brow, but Blumhouse has gone the opposite direction, turning M3GAN into a joyously bloody, laugh-out-loud action comedy. The film definitely feels like a riff on T2: Judgement Day...just with a lot more sass and wit. If you’ve ever played the iconic Portal games, then trust me, M3GAN goes full-blown GLaDOS in the sequel, and it is absolutely hysterical. There’s even a musical number! M3GAN 2.0 totally jumped the shark but somehow ended up better for doing it. It’s a must-watch this summer.

Although it can't quite match the bizarre idiosyncrasies of the original M3GAN, the more action-packed M3GAN 2.0 has plenty to love. The bigger action plot is a good excuse for the filmmakers to push the murderous robot in a new direction. The emotional core of the story, which now shifts more to M3GAN and her creator Gemma, is a surprisingly emotional look at second chances. There's also plenty of satire about the tech-driven state of society, coupled with some pretty brutal kills. M3GAN 2.0 has a lot going for it, especially for fans of dark comedy and fun action beats.

It takes a bit of time to accept that M3GAN 2.0 is less of a horror movie like the original and more of a sci-fi action film, but once you wrap your head around it, there's a fair bit to enjoy about it. M3GAN herself still has the high school mean girl attitude fans love, but the film is now more self-aware and intentionally gives her more fun things to say and do, much like how Freddy Krueger became more comical in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Throw in some pretty solid action scenes, and you have a film that feels very different from its predecessor but still a fun watch.
