This simple Walking Cane Decorating tutorial shows you how to take a plain cane and decorate it for a loved one. If they are getting used to the idea of a cane, sprucing it up to be fashionable can help with the transition. It can be done in about 20 minutes with the proper supplies.
This weekend is my mom's 85th birthday so I am putting together a gift basket to take her when I see her this weekend. She has a little trouble walking so she uses a cane now. While I was thinking about what to give her, it reminded me of a DIY idea I wanted to share with you. It was a gift that my daughter made for my mother a while back.
My mom did not like the idea of using a cane at first... until we blinged it up.
We took a cane that we purchased from a drug store and added leopard-print duct tape and rhinestones. Mom always loves wild animal prints, so it made sense to use an animal print tape on her cane.
We used Duck Tape for our project and first, covered the cane while wrapping in tape. Then we put the rhinestones on, using a glue gun.
We also added some little feathers to further dress up the cane.
It really added a nice ZHUZH to the walking cane!

This is so sweet. My grandmother is turning 100 next month so she's using more than a cane these days, but I know she would have loved this if she could still get away with a cane and not a walker. She's such a fashion plate even now.

Wow Tamara! How wonderful that she will be 100! What a blessing. Yes it's always nice to be fashionable at any age. 🙂

Thank you for the idea. I am 43 years old with several injuries that I’m recovering from. I am currently using crutches, but the physical therapist is suggesting as I get stronger I transition from crutches to a cane.
I’m having a hard time accepting that I may need to use a cane for a little while, but blinging it out might help.
