On the evening of March 12, 1912, the Galveston, Harrisburg, & San Antonio Railroad Train No. 9 pulled away from Del Rio, Texas, with engineer D. E. Grosh at the throttle at about 8:00 p.m. Shortly before midnight, it stopped in Dryden to take on water, and as it was preparing to pull away, outlaws, Ben Kilpatrick and Ole Hobek, whom Kilpatrick met in prison, climbed aboard the engine.  The robbery, known as the Baxter’s Curve Train Robbery and the Sanderson Train Robbery, was one of the last train robberies in Texas.  It was the absolute last for outlaw Ben Kilpatrick. The Seneca are an Iroquoian-speaking tribe historically living south of Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes of North America. The largest of six Native American nations that comprised the Iroquois Confederacy were the farthest to the west in New York before the American Revolution. They were called “The Keepers of the Western Door.” In the Seneca language, they are known as O-non-dowa-gah or “Great Hill People.” Their democratic government pre-dates the United States Constitution.
