Following our announcement about winding down 8th Wall, we wanted to share more clarity on what comes next. We’ve published a new update that provides a high-level look at the transition roadmap, including how the engine will be distributed, what we plan to open source, and how support will change as hosted services wind down. This is an early view meant to help with planning, not a final feature list. View link in comments to read the full update.

Today we shared some difficult news: 8th Wall will begin winding down next year after more than seven years of building WebAR with this incredible community. Before anything else, we want to be clear that 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳. Nothing changes today, and creators have plenty of time to plan next steps. We’re also committed to open sourcing key components of the 8th Wall platform and documentation so the technology can continue to grow in the hands of the developers who shaped it. Thank you to everyone who has explored, experimented, and pushed the boundaries of what WebAR could be. We couldn’t be more grateful for what this community has created together.
