Ten years ago, CodeYourFuture started with a fundamental belief: talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Last Sunday, we celebrated 10 years of working to change that . As we mark National Coding Week, it feels especially meaningful to reflect on how far we've come, and look ahead to what we can build together. A decade of tech education isn't measured in lines of code alone. It is measured in lives changed, confidence rebuilt, and communities strengthened. We want to thank everyone who has contributed to our story over the past 10 years: Our learners, alumni, volunteers, staff, partners and supporters.  This National Coding Week, we want to pause and talk about the heart of our community: our volunteers. Breaking into tech can feel overwhelming. But every week, our volunteers turn that journey from something you face alone into something you achieve together. They're the developers sitting side-by-side with learners on Saturdays, turning frustrating error messages into breakthrough moments. They're the project managers, writers, and designers who give up their evenings to strengthen portfolios, run mock interviews, and build real-world confidence. They're the community champions who show up consistently to send one powerful message: You belong here. Coding opens doors, but it's the people behind the encouragement, guidance, and belief in others that help someone walk through them. To every volunteer who gives their time, skills, and energy: Thank you. You're opening doors, shaping careers, and helping people build futures they may never have thought possible. And the impact goes both ways. Our mentors often tell us they leave each session having grown too, becoming stronger leaders, better communicators, and connecting with incredible, resilient people along the way. You don't need decades of experience to make a difference. You just need the willingness to show up and share what you know. At CodeYourFuture we meet adults who have been told (implicitly or explicitly) that tech isn't for them. Single parents juggling shift work, people rebuilding their lives from scratch, and individuals stepping back into the workforce after long-term unemployment. For many of our trainees, the hardest step is believing they belong in the room. The technical skills come with time. But the real breakthrough happens when trainees start seeing their own potential: ▪️ The moment you ask a question in Slack and get immediate, supportive answers from mentors who want you to succeed. ▪️ The moment you balance a chaotic week of life responsibilities and still show up on Saturday morning ready to learn. ▪️ The moment your code finally runs, and you realize you aren't just learning tech, you're changing your future. Do you still picture coders as people sitting in a dark corner, speaking a language only machines understand? Well the reality is very different, at CodeYourFuture we use code to connect people. Today marks the start of National Coding Week 2026. Over the next seven days, timelines will be filled with posts about software, frameworks, and artificial intelligence. All of that matters. But, we want to focus on what happens behind the screen. Learning to code is about building confidence, solving complex problems, and finding a path into an industry that once felt completely out of reach. In the UK, over 1.5 million adults still lack basic digital skills for work. Tackling this tech gap is a massive opportunity to create a stronger workforce. Coding is a tangible tool for social mobility. It gives refugees, single parents, and adults facing hardship a fair chance to rebuild their lives and support their families. When people are given the opportunity to learn, lives change. This week, we are sharing stories from our community: the late-night study groups, the mentors who gave up their weekends, and the graduates now building software for top tech companies.
