Last week, Austin Mohr and I placed 2nd in the inaugural Carleton Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Venture Capital Club Case Competition. It was a valuable experience and a great opportunity to learn alongside talented peers.

Wednesday night, we held the final presentations of our Carleton Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Venture Capital Club case competition! Students evaluated a business and crafted an investment memo with a recommendation on whether or not to proceed with said investment. The presentations were evaluated by a team of upperclassmen advisors. Congrats to our winners, the "Syndicate Capital" team made up of Luke Revell, Leif Petricka, Carson Rheaume, and James Huang! We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future!

Yesterday, members of Carleton Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Venture Capital Club gathered to listen to Patrick Whitehead, Managing Director at Morgan Stanley Private Equity. Patrick shared valuable insights on the consulting and private equity paths. He gave our members a deep dive into his own recruitment journeys as well as advice from his experience as a liberal arts student pursuing a career in finance. Many thanks to him for joining us! Yesterday, Carleton Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Venture Capital Club had our last meeting of the term! We featured yet another guest speaker, Grant Gregory, a managing director and Head of the North America Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at Morgan Stanley. Grant gave our members advice on building a successful career and finding discernment in what you’re interested in. Grant will also come for an in-person component in January, so stay tuned!

This week, Carleton Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Venture Capital Club featured Mike Kimpel, the founder and CEO of Financeable Training. Mike walked our students through the required technical skill knowledge that students must have for investment banking and buy-side positions and gave us his insights into networking and the upcoming recruitment cycle. He and the Finance|able team also provided the club with free access to their accounting and valuation courses, allowing our members to take that first step to develop their technical skills. Thank you, Mike and the Finance|able team!
