  • Reading a screenplay is one thing; understanding the "why" behind the formatting is another.  For emerging writers, the margins of a script are often where the most important lessons live - so we’ve put together an annotated screenplay page to break down the mechanics of scene structure, dialogue pacing, and industry-standard formatting. We’re here to provide the context behind the craft. Download the annotated guide on the blog: https://lnkd.in/eKc-fGj2

  • If the Pilot is the heart of your show, the Series Bible is the skeleton. 🦴📺 For producers and development execs, a great pilot script is only half the battle. They need to know that the concept has legs — that there’s enough conflict, character depth, and world-building to sustain 50+ episodes without running out of steam. A solid show bible should act as the ultimate pitch deck and production roadmap. It’s where you prove you’ve done the work on the season arc, the character dynamics, and the engine that will keep audiences coming back. We’ve put together a guide on how to build a bible that actually sells the vision (and doesn't just fill up a PDF). Check it out at the link below! https://lnkd.in/eYSUq3ZM

  • Getting feedback on your script is terrifying, but writing in a vacuum is worse. The trick is knowing who to ask and what to ask them. "That was great!" is nice to hear, but it's not going to help you improve what you've written. You want to know where the pacing slowed down and where the characters felt thin. If you ask the right people the right questions, you get a roadmap for your rewrite instead of just a bruised ego.  https://lnkd.in/eZkUkSuc #screenwriting #screenwritingadvice #scriptfeedback #scriptreader

  • Think working as a Production Assistant is just endless coffee runs? Think again. ☕🎬 Being a PA is the best unofficial film school for screenwriters because you see exactly how words on a page translate into a logistical reality, and it's great experience to get under your belt before stepping into larger roles. Kathryn Bigelow worked as a PA and other entry level roles before becoming a director. Greta Gerwig also took on PA duties before ever directing. When you see a director struggle with a 5-page dialogue scene in a rainstorm, you learn to write smarter, leaner, and more producible scripts. It’s about building a network and learning the language of the set before you’re the one running it. Ready to land your first gig? • We'll be the first to admit: our flowchart skills are non-existent. But as filmmakers, we know that a "rough" plan is better than no plan at all.  Understanding scope is the foundation of a viable production. Over-writing a simple concept results in a bloated script that is significantly harder to fund, cast, and produce. Identifying the narrative architecture early saves you months of rewriting. You need to know whether it's a 10-minute proof-of-concept or a 110-minute epic. We’ve outlined the key differences in scope on the blog (using much cleaner graphics, I promise). • A chaotic casting call quickly becomes a drain on your production’s timeline and budget (not to mention a massive headache). Professionalism in the audition room sets the tone for the entire project and ensures your talent can give their best performance. If you are a director looking to avoid becoming one of those "my worst casting call" stories that gets told at wrap parties, we have a complete guide to running a c professional casting call with a free casting room layout guide. Filmmaking is 10% "Action!" and 90% logistics.  You can have the most brilliant script in the world, but if your 2nd AD is missing a call sheet and your Lead Actor is at the wrong location, the "magic" isn't happening. Managing a cast and crew is essentially like conducting an orchestra where half the instruments are on different continents.  At Celtx, we believe the management side of the craft should be as seamless as the writing side. From centralized contact lists to real-time schedule updates, we’re helping you keep the "human" part of your production organized so you can get back to the storytelling. Ready to stop the email chains and start the cameras? Check out our guide to managing your team like a pro: https://lnkd.in/etCrt9gp

"I thought we were going for a moody vibe, not a horror movie vibe." 🤦♂️ If you’ve ever reached the end of a project only to realize the "vision" was lost in translation three weeks ago, you know the pain of a bad (or non-existent) Creative Brief. A creative brief isn't just a formal hoop to jump through — it’s your production's North Star. It’s the document that stops the "endless feedback loop" before it even starts. It defines the "why" so your team can focus on the "how." The question is: how do you write a brief that actually gets results (without being a 40-page snooze-fest)? We’ve broken it down here: https://lnkd.in/eCy7X_W8
