Most operators think they've automated check-in. They've got a smart lock. A welcome email template. Maybe a PMS that syncs calendars. So when someone asks "is your check-in automated?" the honest answer feels like yes. But here's what the data actually shows: only 26.6% of operators in our 2026 industry study have reached full check-in automation. 3 out of 4 are still somewhere in the middle. Automated enough to feel modern, manual enough to still get woken up at 1 AM by a guest who can't find the key. That gap matters. Because the cost of hybrid isn't visible on a P&L line. It shows up as the message you answered while putting your kid to bed. The ID you re-typed into the police portal at 11 PM on a Sunday. The cleaner who arrived before the previous guest had actually left because nobody updated the system.
