Everybody's discussing the "gym hack" these days, where apparently an AI agent "hacked" a gym to remove a person from the waitlist to bump its owner up in the queue. What everybody seems to forget is that it WAS NOT A HACK. It was simply poorly written software, with too many permissions, or probably more likely no permission checks at all. The fix is called "RBAC" and if implemented, the agent wouldn't have been able to do what it did. Basically, the guy who IMPLEMENTED the API either; 1. Didn't care about security 2. How I did in 20 hours what would need 3 months 3 years ago! In the weekend I completely rewrote the entire frontend dashboard for Magic. Paradoxically, this is a job I've done previously, back in 2021/2022. Back then, me and one more senior software developer spent about 3 to 4 months in total to do "the big rewrite".
