About us

B:Music’s mission is to inspire a love of live music, through performance, participation and learning. B:Music venues Town Hall and Symphony Hall are the centre of Birmingham’s cultural heart – presenting the world’s most exciting and diverse artists, orchestras and bands, including Kraftwerk, The British Paraorchestra of Great Britain, Satinder Sartaaj, Chineke!, Gary Barlow, Joan Armatrading and the world-renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. We believe that music is essential to everyone and has the power to transform and change lives, to entertain and uplift, to create shared experiences and to educate. Each year, we programme nearly 800 concerts and events and bring the best jazz, folk, world, roots, classical, rock and pop performers to audiences of over 550,000. Our Jazz programme is a key part of the region’s jazz infrastructure, nurturing new talent and creating performance opportunities, while our Learning & Participation team works with 18,000 people from across Birmingham each year. • This International Women’s Day, we’re accelerating action! Introducing Lucy-Ellen Parker, Talent Development & Education Manager at B:Music. Lucy is behind one of B:Music’s latest projects - She:Music. We’re delighted on International Women’s Day to announce this exciting project. We spoke to Lucy to hear more about She:Music and to hear her thoughts on why this years IWD theme of ‘accelerating action’ aligns with this female-led project. “Over the next three years, we will work with Women from across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, specifically targeting those in underrepresented areas within music such as the Heavy Metal, Rock and Jazz genres, plus within Technical Production. The She:Music project will include a series of workshops, drop-in sessions, career advice, and round tables with industry professionals and our partners.” “Why in 2025 are these areas of music in particular so underrepresented and what can we do? In the context of International Women’s Day, and with the launch of this project just around the corner, we’re excited to accelerate action by helping to enable women to feel more confident to start a career in music and give them a network to grow their careers and advocate for change within the industry.” She:Music officially launches later this month and we hope to bring you more information on the project and how you can support over the coming weeks Join us as we accelerate action. 🎶💜 #IWD2025 #SheMusic #AccelerateAction

Meet Graham: Senior Event Accountant at B:Music 🎶   Graham ensures smooth financial settlements for events at Symphony Hall and Town Hall. Working closely with promoters and artists, he enjoys the variety of performances. "My favourite thing about my job is liaising with promoters and artists to complete event settlements and getting to see such a variety of events at our venues." When asked about a lesser-known part of his role, Graham highlighted “Cradle to Pay”—the detailed financial process from a promoter’s first contact with B:Music to final settlement. "There are so many stages to putting an event on that people not in the industry may not be aware of. It is important that the process flows smoothly, with everyone singing from the same hymn sheet."   A passionate pianist, Graham is Musical Director of the Worcester Musical Theatre Company, helps run the Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra, and plays keys in ska band The Cuginis.   His B:Music journey began in 2008 as a steward while studying Human Biology. "I used to come on many school trips from Worcester to concerts at Symphony Hall, so I have a long-standing love for this place!" Over the years, he moved into finance, met his wife right here at B:Music, and formed lifelong friendships. "I love working here as it is full of people who appreciate the arts. Most people who work here either have an interest in the arts or are artists themselves." For Graham, B:Music is more than a workplace—it’s a community. #birminghamcommunity #artscareers #livemusic #birminghamvenue #Bmusic
