Happy National Radiologic Technology Week! “This week celebrates and recognizes the amazing work of radiology technologists in healthcare. Clearly, we could not provide care without the expertise, diligence, and compassion provided by our technologists,” says Diana Diaz, vice president of medical imaging. “We are extremely proud of the work they do here at Brown University Health. We appreciate and value your hard work every day, and hope that everyone joins us to celebrate and honor our technologist’s valuable contributions, not just this week, but every week.” #MedicalImaging #RadiologyTechnology #ThankYou

The Miriam Hospital recently hosted three surveyors during our 7th Magnet Site Visit. Leigh Hubbard, Magnet Program Manager at the hospital, said this: "The three surveyors who were on site talked with over 350 individuals, mostly clinical RNs, about how they influenced their workplace, their clinical practice, and their professional development. They were inspired by the collaboration between nursing and other healthcare professionals and within nursing across departments. Their final thoughts were uplifting: The Miriam Hospital is a place where you don't feel alone, where clinical inquiry and innovation is commonplace and where the nurse has a voice in decision-making." The Miriam Hospital is one of an elite group of hospitals nationwide and internationally to achieve Magnet designation six times. Miriam has earned this highest nursing credential through extensive application processes every four years. Thank you so much to everyone who worked tirelessly to prepare for this site visit as we go for our seventh Magnet designation. #TheMiriamHospital #MagnetProgram #RegisteredNurses

Alissa Savignano was first drawn to #radiology when her beloved dog, Jake, was extremely sick. “I kept thinking that if only I could take a look inside then I could figure out what was wrong with him.” That thought is what spurred Alissa to go back to school to become an #ultrasound technician and help uncover the answers to her patients’ questions. At Rhode Island Hospital, Alissa appreciates the fast-paced days of working at a Level 1 Trauma Center—and of course, “working alongside the best coworkers and the most amazing radiologist is so rewarding.” We’re #hiring for a range of diagnostic #imaging positions across the Brown University Health system in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. Better understanding the relationship between social media use and mental health is why the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is funding research out of Brown University Health. "We have a lot of ideas about the impact social media might be playing, but we don't have a lot of great evidence," said Dr. Jackie Nesi, a clinical psychologist at Rhode Island Hospital who will be leading this $4.09 million research. The idea of physical and occupational therapy is often associated with recovery after surgery, broken bones, or a stroke. But those with breast cancer may also find it beneficial. In fact, rehabilitation during and after breast cancer treatment can reduce the treatment side effects and help with the recovery process.
