Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools have applications across many industries, including marketing and medicine. Yanni Jin, a seasoned medical management professional in China, explained how NLP-enabled name badges are being used to record patient/practitioner conversations and analyze them for keywords, red flags, and changes in emotions that could impact provider decision-making and lead to better care. This conversation was part of an OMS Analytics conference panel — featuring Michael Varda, Jin, and Joe Domaleski, MBA — discussing the use of NLP tools for modern analysts.

Advances in AI/Machine Learning (ML) are far outpacing privacy considerations and proper data governance. On the first day of the inaugural OMS Analytics conference, Instructional Associate Jake Gord shared insights into the current misalignment of consumer protections and organizational responsibilities during a privacy panel, which also featured Professor DeBrae Kennedy-Mayo and Instructional Associate Hal Overman. AI/ML companies must be proactive in implementing a privacy-by-design approach or risk losing consumer confidence and being in the crosshairs of regulatory bodies.

From day one, Professional Master’s in Applied Systems Engineering students, like Daniel Reis, gain knowledge they can immediately apply on the job. “Getting this knowledge from industry experts and academics really sets a foundation that I could use at work from the very first course. I was able to implement aspects of what I learned into ongoing work to present a better product for our customers.” Ready to level up your impact at work?
