Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence reposted this
The Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence was proud to host the first Recovery and Healing Symposium. Expert leaders from around the country shared their wisdom and practices to support the healing and recovery of victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence. We are grateful to Deputy Vice-Chancellor - Research, Deakin Distinguished Professor Matthew CLARKE for welcoming the audience and supporting our Network over many years. Carolyn Robinson delivered an outstanding Keynote Address and enlightened us with the innovative, creative and survivor-led solutions that Beyond DV Ltd has created. Sally Stevenson AM and Beth Woodstone from the Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre showed us how the seemingly impossible can become possible through community-led, collaborative solutions to establish the first publicly-funded Centre. Jade Parker from ACON, Geraldine B. from Kara Family Violence Service Leslie Smith from Quantum Support Services Ltd. & A/Prof Jessamy Gleeson from Deakin showed us why they are the leaders in supporting the healing and recovery of diverse communities through their trauma-informed, culturally relevant strategies. Dr. Renee Fiolet shared her unique Deakin-led research on supporting healing among First Nations communities and I shared our research on evidence-based recovery-focused strategies. My heartfelt thanks to Professor Marilyn McMahon for her Opening and Closing remarks and to the DNAGV coordinators, Ece Z. and Caitlin Mary Hewish-Cramer for their remarkable support of the event. Thank you to all the attendees for your engaging and thoughtful discussions. We all feel re-energised to support the recovery and healing journeys of people impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence.
