Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence

Higher Education

A University-wide, interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners with expertise in gendered violence.

About us

The aim of the Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence (DNAGV) is to foster a network that will facilitate and promote Deakin’s expertise in the area of violence against women (gendered violence; intimate partner violence; family violence; and sexual violence). The DNAGV provides regular opportunities for Deakin researchers to collaborate and identify further areas of expertise, host events and build capacity for enhanced research collaborations with academics from other faculties and universities, the community, the family violence sector, and government and non-government stakeholders. We will develop evidence-based strategies to reduce violence against women and children and provide the family violence sector with tools to address the issue in a practical and informed way. DNAGV Co-Convenors: A/Professor Mary Iliadis: Associate Professor Mary Iliadis’ research expertise are in the areas of domestic, family and sexual violence, victims’ rights, legal representation for victims of sexual offences, and procedural and substantive justice for victim/survivors. Her work is situated within broader debates about the role, rights and protections of victims of gender-based violence in adversarial legal systems, and outlines prospects for the transfer of policy and practice between national and international jurisdictions. A/Professor Lata Satyen: Dr. Lata Satyen is an associate professor in Psychology at Deakin University and a Registered Psychologist. Her research focuses on intersectionality in family and domestic violence, mental health outcomes, and the cultural relevance of prevention and intervention programs that address violence against women and children.
