And the 26th Nursing Network on Violence Against Women International conference comes to a close! Such an amazing conference! Biggest thanks to Victoria Smye and Marilyn Ford-GIlboe at Western University University, Karen Campbell of York University, Susan Jack of McMaster University and @Elizabeth Orr at Brock University for hosting the conference for our network this year. A huge cheers to Christina Safar, MSc and all of the volunteers! Colleen Varcoe The University of British Columbia and Lori Heise from The Johns Hopkins University were amazing keynote speakers! Panelists included Kamila A. Alexander from The Johns Hopkins University, Dr Te Wai Barbarich-Unasa and Claire Gear, PhD from Auckland University of Technology and Michelle Munro-Kramer of the University of Michigan! It was wonderful to meet so many inspiring delegates. The future really is bright... I'm already excited for our next conference in Cape Town South Africa where @Tania de Villiers of University of Cape Town is preparing to join Nicholas Metheny of Emory University in hosting the 27th gathering.

As part of the organising committee, happy to announce that the Asia-Pacific Society for Prevention Research (AP-SPR) is hosting our second online conference in November. The Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence invites you to: The Recovery and Healing Symposium on 28 October 2025 Join us for a half-day hybrid symposium exploring holistic healing and recovery practices and research. The event will feature a Keynote Presentation on the evidence-based, holistic recovery and healing framework by Carolyn Robinson, Founder and CEO of Beyond DV. Dr Karen Williams and Sally Stevenson AM from the Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre will present the innovative work of Australia's first federally-funded Trauma Recovery Centre. This will be followed by a panel discussion by sector leaders: Jade Parker, ACON; Geraldine B., Family Safety Victoria; Leslie Smith, Quantum Support Services, & A/Prof Jessamy Gleeson, Deakin University. Deakin University's leading research on recovery and healing will be presented by A/Prof Dr. Lata Satyen and Dr Renee Fiolet. Prevention programs are effective in transforming attitudes to domestic violence and increasing awareness of the different types of violence. Our impact evaluation of the Our Watch public health campaign 'No Excuse for Abuse' among 3,070 Australians shows that exposure to the videos can significantly increase the recognition of non-physical forms of violence and create unfavourable attitudes to the violence compared to those not exposed to the videos. Males showed lesser effects of the exposure compared to females. Along with Reima Pryor and Jayne Pilkinton from Our Watch and the Deakin team led by Prof John Toumbourou, Elizabeth Doery, Dr Bianca Klettke and myself, our evaluation has been published in the Journal of Family Violence with the full-text freely accessible: https://lnkd.in/gffRCzcc

We’d also like to say thank you to those who attended today - it was wonderful to see so many people from various research backgrounds taking part in today’s session and learning about researcher wellbeing during sensitive topic research.
