  • Did you know 94% of Douglas County teens have never misused prescription pain medicine? The Douglas County Opioid Council has launched a new public awareness campaign to highlight these positive choices. Developed in collaboration with local teens, the campaign shares personal stories and the “why” behind their decision to live substance-free. Research shows that when teens know most of their peers are making healthy choices, they are more likely to do the same. 🎥 Learn more and hear their stories at OurUnfilteredVoices.org

  • When the call went out in 2024 asking the community to help fund a memorial for Kendrick Castillo, the response was immediate — and overwhelming. Within just a few days, the $30,000 goal was fully funded, with donations continuing to pour in from people eager to help honor a young man whose bravery continues to inspire us all. You’re invited to join us for the unveiling of the Kendrick Castillo Memorial Monument at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at Civic Green Park in Highlands Ranch. Together, we’ll celebrate not only the lasting tribute to a young man whose compassion continues to inspire, but also the unity of a community that came together to make it possible. Visit our webpage to learn more about the memorial: https://lnkd.in/gwp8MaSA

  • Thanks to your kind words of encouragement, children at local hospitals had a SUPER Halloween. It can be spooky to be in the hospital and certainly no fun to be there instead of trick-or-treating on Halloween. But you helped make it easier for these families. The hundreds of cards you and your kids wrote earlier in October during the fall festival in Sterling Ranch brightened the days of children at local hospitals this Halloween. This is a Halloween tradition for Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon. We are inspired by your generosity and the strength and endurance of the kids we met in the hospitals.

  • Douglas County is an incredible place to live; it’s also an incredible place for businesses to host world-class events. Commissioners celebrated the Castle Pines Golf Club this week for their enormous success in hosting the 2024 BMW Championship. Some of the tournament's accomplishments include: ⛳ More than 138,000 spectators in attendance, the championship delivered a powerful economic boost to our local community. ⛳ The PGA TOUR named the BMW Championship its “Tournament of the Year” for an unprecedented sixth time, a distinction no other event in TOUR history has achieved. ⛳ The event raised a record-setting $10.2 million for the Evans Scholars Foundation, funding full college scholarships for youth caddies across the country — the largest single-year contribution in the tournament’s history. Thank you, Castle Pines Golf Club, Geoff “Duffy” Solich, Dwight Dyksterhouse and Mike MacAdams, and their team, for bringing the prestigious tournament to Douglas County and helping to showcase our community, hospitality and commitment to excellence!
