Once a year, at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, PostgreSQL developers and community advocates gather for a unique immersive experience of four days of full-length talks, lightning talks, and unconference sessions - all dedicated to Postgres. Tomorrow, at PGConf.dev 🐘, I will be a part of a panel discussion Beyond the source: the human architecture of PostgreSQL https://lnkd.in/eAxz9cY7 alongside the wonderful company of people - Hari Kiran, Jimmy Angelakos, Miaolai Z. led by Floor Drees, where we will discuss challenges of contributions to Postgres and strategies to prevent the burnout. Later in the day, I’ll also be giving a talk about community moments that are an essential part of PostgreSQL development, specifically conferences. I’ll cover the key stakeholders involved in large community events and discuss improvements we can make as a community to continue growing sustainably. If you’re in Munich next Tuesday and looking for bread and entertainment, I’ll be at a meetup giving a talk on “Operating Postgres as a data source for your analytics pipelines.” The days when analytics systems were just OLAP replicas of Postgres are long gone. Today, Postgres often has to serve as a live data source for real-time analytics — and that comes with its own set of challenges. In this talk, I’ll walk through practical approaches to change data capture (CDC), compare different solutions (xmin-based vs. logical replication), and share lessons learned from running mission-critical Postgres systems under analytical load. We’ll also look at tools like Debezium, Kafka, Flink, and PeerDB/ClickPipes — what works, what doesn’t, and what to watch out for. If you’re dealing with analytics pipelines, DataOps, or running Postgres under pressure, this talk is for you.
