Thanks to those that joined us today for our "Space Around the Thing" interactive workshop as part of Leeds Digital Festival! The group explored the invisible work that goes into transforming public services, including the biggest blockers and how we can tackle them. They got to see real-world examples of how to build services that consider the wider environment they're entering, and to workshop their own examples from both the public and private sectors. "Every now and then, you stumble across a solution for one product that makes you pause and think: ‘Wait, haven’t I seen this problem somewhere else?'" Alex's latest blog post tells the story of how solving a case tracking problem in one product at Department for Education turned into a navigation pattern for an entirely different one. In user-centred design, it can be easy to get tunnel vision in day-to-day delivery across large programmes of work. On 24th September, Ming will host his session at SDinGov about "The art of decision making: prototyping public services in the age of AI." While prototyping is often treated as a low-fidelity checkbox before the "real" work begins, in practice, it's one of designers' most powerful tools for validation, alignment, and uncovering constraints early. We have had a brilliant year at dxw and it’s great to see what we’ve achieved with the publication of our impact report - https://lnkd.in/e-BV59Yq. dxw teams are supporting critical work across the digital public realm, whether that’s the public servants supporting our schools or the NHS workers preventing critical illness. I am particularly proud of the work we are doing in the probation service to reduce reoffending and ease the pressure on a prison system stretched to the limit. Looking ahead, we will be doing more great work in more places in the coming 12 months. This week our web publishing team got together in Birmingham for some away day activities and much valued face-to-face time. Anna designed and Rianna helped facilitate a workshop to learn about sprint goals using paper aeroplanes, while the afternoon saw an AI hack event, based on the premise “what if we asked AI to build an entire project for us from scratch?” Rob said about the day: "Almost every member of every team was utilising different AI tools and licensing models. This breadth of experience means we’ve got a real chance to learn from one another as we work with AI."
