  • Does AI really “understand” your culture, or just imitate someone else’s? A new Harvard study compared ChatGPT’s worldview against 65 cultures worldwide, and the results are… revealing. One major country is mysteriously missing from the data. Can you spot it? When researchers mapped GPT’s answers to the World Values Survey, they found that AI doesn’t reflect human thinking, it reflects certain cultures: 🟢 Closest match: 🇺🇸 USA · 🇩🇪 Germany · 🇯🇵 Japan · 🇳🇱 Netherlands · 🇬🇧 UK 🔴 Most distant: 🇪🇹 Ethiopia · 🇵🇰 Pakistan · 🇰🇬 Kyrgyzstan · 🇧🇩 Bangladesh 📉 The deeper the cultural gap, the weaker the alignment (r = –0.70). Even more striking, when GPT describes an “average person,” it imagines someone Western, individualistic, and self-focused. Why it matters? Billions of people, mostly in non-Western regions, aren’t represented in AI training data. What we call “human-level AI” might actually be “WEIRD-level AI” (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic). And as AI becomes our translator, advisor, and decision-maker, whose values will it really amplify? Are we building technology for everyone, or just scaling one worldview across the planet?
