A few years ago, I was involved in a project that combined TEI Publisher and ExistDB with Drupal to support import and editing of regulatory documents and product monographs. It turns out that these documents spend a lot of their lives in MS Word, because “track changes” is easier to use than PDF annotations or any other alternative, and TEI Publisher is quite good at converting Word to TEI, which can be used as an internal format within ExistDB. One of the most interesting projects I’ve been involved with, and every time a new release of TEI Publisher comes out, I’m curious what new features have been added. It emerged from a time when SemWeb was riding high, but in academic settings, it still gets used, a lot, because it is really good technology. I was less involved with the Drupal side, but my takeaway was that ExistDB + Drupal makes for a decent enterprise content management system.
TEI Publisher 9.1.0 is out 🎉 It is a bug fix release, mainly addressing failures on Microsoft Windows, but also some other small, but annoying bugs. We're working hard on TEI Publisher 10, which will bring a major redesign, but its release is still a few weeks away. Hey, fellow XML nerds & tag lovers! If you happen to be at Markup UK in London this week, and got questions about eXist-db, want to talk about XQuery, native XML databases, or just rant about trying to force hierarchies into SQL tables... Juri Leino and Duncan Paterson from the eXist-db core team will be in the house! Come say hi — we’d would be happy to talk 💬😄 #MarkupUK #existdb #XQuery #OpenSourceLove

Statement of the eXist-db core developers concerning license violations We recently discovered license changes for code that Evolved Binary derived from eXist-db in Elemental, its fork of eXist-db. The changes were published on GitHub. Furthermore the Elemental website states that it is distributed under a different license than LGPL 2.1. This constitutes a clear violation of the LGPL license. We consulted with one of Europe's most renowned experts on Open Source Software licenses: Till Jaeger confirmed that LGPL-2.1 does not permit relicensing, except to GPL, according to Sec. 3 of the LGPL-2.1. Any other relicensing under different license terms without the consent of all copyright owners of the respective code constitutes copyright infringement. eXist-db will and must stay under LGPL 2.1. We stand by open source software and our license. We have neither consented nor been approached about relicensing our contributions. We therefore ask Evolved Binary to remedy the license violation immediately. https://lnkd.in/dEQQ2Gxw

We are happy to announce that version 6.4.0 of #eXistdb was released last week. It is a small feature release that addresses three breaking regressions that were discovered in 6.3.0. We recommend that all users of eXist-db 6.0.0-6.3.0 upgrade to version 6.4.0. Important facts: - DMG and installers are now signed by eXist Solutions GmbH and - Docker images and the DMG run natively on arm Macs and x86 platforms Thanks to all who helped get it out! These include Juri Leino, Leif-Jöran Olsson, Wolfgang Meier, Dannes Wessels, Duncan Paterson, Patrick Reinhart, Olaf Schreck, and everyone else who contributed in any other way like posting issues and testing. For more detailed information please have a look at the release notes: https://lnkd.in/dZcE-Kqr This marks the last planned update to eXist-db 6, and we will now shift focus on version 7. #XMLDB #NOSQL #XQuery #XPath #XML
