Most bitcoin price trackers tell you what bitcoin is worth in dollars. That number means very little to someone in Africa. citrusrate pulls live data from local exchanges across 18 African countries and shows you the price in the local currency. It's now available as a Mini App inside Fedi. Learn more. Link in the comments.

Bitcoin adoption in #India 🇮🇳 remains one of the most underreported trends in #Bitcoin. An incredible amount of adoption is happening in one of the world's most populous countries, and it's occurring thanks to the work that the likes of Karan Gill and Aditya Ranjan of Bitcoin Bharat are doing. Gill and Ranjan have organized almost 100 in-person Bitcoin education events across India, reaching over 13,000 of their fellow countrypeople in the process. What is more, they aim to educate 100,000 Indians in-person before 2027 is out. And this is to say nothing of their efforts to teach corporate leaders in India about the value of investing in bitcoin, how they incentivize Indian Bitcoin content creators, or the major Bitcoin conference they plan to host in India in 2027. I wrote about all of this and more in my latest Spotlight piece for Fedi. Enjoy!
“If we go in person and teach them about Bitcoin, they will be more convinced compared to if we do it online or if we just published a blog.” - Karan Gill, co-founder of Bitcoin Bharat 76 in-person events and 50+ cities later, 13,000+ Indians learned about Bitcoin and financial sovereignty. Almost 10 years ago, Lucas de C. Ferreira, co-founder of Vinteum, turned to #Bitcoin in an effort to avoid a pyramid scheme. He'd just graduated from university with a degree in anthropology. Wanting to have a social impact, he considered pursuing a PhD. However, he decided against it when he figured out there wasn't space in academia for all of the students entering the PhD program to become professors. "It was actually a pyramid scheme," Ferreira said about academia. He found Bitcoin soon after coming to this realization and quickly got involved in the space. And his involvement ever since has not only been a boon for Brazilian 🇧🇷 Bitcoin developers but for the Bitcoin space at large. I documented Lucas' incredible contributions in the piece below. Enjoy!
What does it take to build a truly global Bitcoin protocol? Lucas de C. Ferreira, co-founder of Vinteum.org, has spent years making space for Brazilian developers in the Bitcoin open-source ecosystem. Through grants, education programs, and Casa21, Vinteum has helped 15+ developers land full-time roles at projects like Bitcoin Dev Kit, Stratum V2, and Blockstream. 👨🎓 Here are 5 things I learned from studying Fedi for 200+ hours 👨🎓 Most people see Fedi as a Bitcoin app. I think they're missing the bigger picture! After spending more than 200 hours studying Fedi, federations, community banking, custody models and Bitcoin adoption in emerging markets, these are my biggest takeaways: 1. Technology doesn't save people. Communities do. Bitcoin gives people a superior monetary network, but adoption accelerates when it is introduced through trusted relationships. Fedi's federation model recognizes a truth many technologists overlook: trust already exists within communities. 2. Self-custody is not the first step for everyone. For Bitcoin veterans, self custody is obvious. For billions of people entering the financial system for the first time, community custody can be a practical bridge between complete dependence and full sovereignty. 3. The next billion users won't arrive through speculation. Most people in the developing world don't care about price predictions. They care about protecting savings, receiving payments, reducing remittance costs, and creating economic stability for their families. 4. Local leadership beats global marketing. A trusted teacher, business owner, community leader, church group, village elder, or NGO can drive more meaningful adoption than a million dollar advertising campaign. 5. The real opportunity is human, not financial. The most important thing Fedi taught me is that Bitcoin isn't ultimately about wealth. It's about resilience, dignity, coordination, and giving people more control over their own lives. The Bitcoin companies that understand this will build the future. The ones that don't will simply build products. What do you believe is the biggest barrier preventing the next 1 billion people from adopting Bitcoin? #Bitcoin #Fedi #LightningNetwork #FinancialFreedom #EmergingMarkets
