Great work - helping FIRST do what we do best: bringing people together to learn, network and collaborate.
🎯 Proud to have participated as a volunteering trainer with FIRST during the Regional Cyber Security Week held in Muscat, in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). For those unfamiliar, FIRST (Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) is a global forum of incident response and security teams dedicated to improving cybersecurity by fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and enhancing incident response capabilities worldwide. On Day 1, I delivered a training session and hands-on exercise titled: Detecting Attacker TTPs and IOCs with Open-Source Tools. The session focused on analyzing Windows event logs, creating timelines, and detecting adversary behaviors using various open-source tools—equipping participants with practical techniques for uncovering threat actor activities and improving detection capabilities. Day 2 featured a cyber drill designed to simulate a realistic scenario (compromised web servers and lateral movement), with nearly 50+ professionals (onsite and remote) from various national CERTs actively participating. Drills like these are essential because effective preparation and realistic exercises ensure teams are ready to respond decisively when real-world incidents occur. Thank you to FIRST, ITU, OCERT, and all the attendees for making this event impactful. It’s always rewarding to witness the cyber community coming together to strengthen our global defense posture. #cybersecurity #cyberdrill #dfir #incidentresponse
