    𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 "𝙲̲𝚛̲𝚎̲𝚊̲𝚝̲𝚎̲ ̲𝚊̲𝚗̲ ̲𝚊̲𝚌̲𝚌̲𝚘̲𝚞̲𝚗̲𝚝̲.̲" I wanted to see if there was another way. That question led me to discover 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗶, an open-source platform that emulates cloud services locally using Docker. Instead of provisioning real cloud resources, I could spin up local emulators for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud right on my laptop. As someone who enjoys learning by building, I thought... "𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙖 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡-𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙙 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙬?" So I built a Local Multi-Cloud Data Pipeline with an event-driven serverless architecture. Here's what it does: 📄 Upload a JSON file into a local Amazon S3 bucket ⚡ Automatically trigger an AWS Lambda function 🗄️ Store processed metadata in DynamoDB At the same time, I also ingested different datasets into three cloud storage services running locally: 📦 JSON → AWS S3 📊 CSV → Google Cloud Storage 📝 Log files → Azure Blob Storage Everything was orchestrated using Docker Compose and monitored through a unified Floci Dashboard. What made this project exciting wasn't just the final result. It was how quickly I could experiment. I could upload files, trigger events, break the pipeline, fix it, and start again within seconds—without waiting for deployments or worrying about cloud costs. It made concepts like event-driven architecture, serverless computing, and multi-cloud development much easier to understand because I could see every step happening locally. Reading about cloud services is helpful, but building something - even in a local environment - helps connect the dots in a completely different way.     I ran AWS on my laptop yesterday, using a cloud emulator called floci. It lets me run apps that depend on AWS services locally. An open source alternative to LocalStack, with no auth token and no paid tier. I saw a post about it a few months ago and saved a note, because I knew I would need it at some point. Well, that time has come. I'm building my startup and needed an S3 bucket, an SQS queue and an RDS instance. I emulated all three locally, without setting anything up in the cloud. And I've only scratched the surface. This thing does a lot more than I need. It's not limited to AWS either. You can emulate Azure, GCP and OCI services too. Thanks Hector Ventura for building this.

  • OCI was the last major cloud with no local emulator. Not anymore. Four down. Any Cloud. Locally. floci.io/oci

    Floci - Any Cloud. Locally. speaks Oracle Cloud now. floci-oci is live, the fourth emulator in the family after AWS, Azure, and GCP. OCI is the only major cloud with no local emulator at all. No LocalStack equivalent, no dev container, nothing. Testing has always meant a real tenancy and real network round trips, even in CI. That gap is closed. One container on port 4599. Object Storage, Identity, Queue, Streaming, Vault and KMS, Secrets, and Functions. Point the OCI CLI, the SDKs, Terraform, or OpenTofu at it and keep the workflow you already have. Real engines, not mocks. KMS does actual AES-GCM, RSA, and ECDSA crypto. Functions runs your image through a real fnserver sidecar. The official oracle/oci Terraform provider works unmodified. The screenshot is the whole setup. Three commands, then oci os ns get just works. MIT. No feature gates, no telemetry, no account. Light, fluffy, and always free. Four clouds down.
