We built it to help with the complex, multi-day custom trips that advisors plan with our network of local specialists. The goal was simple: replace the fragmented PDFs and email chains with something that actually helps travelers feel supported on the ground. No photo could better wrap up my first work trip to Portugal after 13 months of operating this beautiful country from afar. 10 days. 6 locations. 3 storms. Severe flooding. Non-stop heavy rain. And yet, my heart couldn’t be fuller. In this photo, I was at Pena Palace in Sintra. It was meant to be a planned FAM visit with my trusted operator, but parts of the road to the palace entrance had been destroyed just 3 days earlier due to extreme weather. Instead of switching to another monument as suggested, I asked my operator to let me walk up to the palace. With the limited information we had, walking up the hilly cobblestone path could take up to 45 minutes instead of the usual 10, and it would be slippery under heavy rain and thick fog. But if anyone needs to know the real situation firsthand, it has to be me. I owe that to my kimkim travelers who will be arriving soon and counting every day for their magical experience in Sintra. At the top, the rain was pouring, my raincoat barely holding against 80 km/h wind gusts, and I was genuinely happy. Happy to understand the real conditions. Happy to be able to give honest, updated advice. Happy knowing that the next traveler standing there will be better prepared because I was, and knowing that the sun will be shining in the days to come on this beautiful country after 3 months with a series of storms. To Vasco, David, Marco and Ana, Joana and Alex, Rodrigo, Ricardo and Karina, Daniel, Sara, Bianca and Gonçalo, Lucas, Luis and Filipe, Rui - muito obrigada. I didn’t manage to take a single photo with any of you, but I’m carrying every meaningful moment in my heart. My heart is full because of you and the conversations we shared, not only reflecting on our travelers’ experiences and talking about how to enhance them with our new approach and project, but also for driving hours through storms to see me, for welcoming me into your communities, for opening doors, sharing stories, and building real bridges between us. After this trip, I’m more certain than ever that our kimkim travelers are in the best hands, cared for and guided toward truly authentic experiences in Portugal. To those I couldn’t meet because the road to your villages was destroyed or because you were stranded in other regions due to the storms, I felt your care even from afar. Thank you for checking in on me and telling me to take care of myself while I was on the ground. We'll meet again, I promise. I’m already looking forward to coming back soon. Trips like this remind me why being on the ground matters so much, for an Operations Specialist like me and for every traveler who trusts us with their journey. The connection, the learning, the shared resilience - it makes all the difference. Until next time, Portugal 🇵🇹 My heart is already on its way back.
