This summer marks a pivotal moment for KQED. It’s been nearly one year since we lost federal funding, and we have a multimillion-dollar gap to fill each year. Your support is essential as we build the future of public media in Northern California together. As we enter this new era for public media, we’re also entering our summer member drive. Each donation moves us one step closer to securing critical resources that KQED needs to serve the Bay Area with trusted reporting, insightful programming and meaningful community connection. The California primary is only two weeks away. Bay Area voters are deciding on the state’s next governor, who should fill two congressional seats, and several other key local and statewide races. We created the 2026 Primary Voter Guide, a free and easy-to-use reference, for anyone looking for fact-based and trustworthy information about each of the key races, candidates and measures that Bay Area voters will determine in the June 2 primary.

Nearly 12 million Californians listen to or watch a public media broadcaster each week. In today's San Francisco Chronicle, KQED Board Chair Jennifer Cabalquinto makes a case for state funding for 33 public media stations: “Funding public media would protect local news programs, emergency alerts, educational programs and diverse cultural programs that all keep residents safe, informed and connected."

On Saturday, over 4,500 members of the community joined us for KQED Fest, one of our biggest events of the year. KQED Fest is an open house and block party celebrating public media. As one of the many ways we foster a sense of place in the Bay Area, we showcased 17 local community partner organizations, 10 local food establishments, and performances from 10 local artists. Thank you to our staff, faculty and volunteers for making this day happen! Photos by Marcus Nuñez.
