Instructional Impact and Innovation Pipeline visual. How to apply this process to your institution / open source project to do more with less while equipping students with the skills needed to jump into industry: 1️⃣ Find an application leveraged by a university *that you can influence and improve*. 2️⃣ Find courses and instructors who are teaching skills that could be leveraged to improve that application 3️⃣ Slight modification to assignment scope to direct outputs to be towards solving those real-world problems 4️⃣ Apply those improvements to the problem using solutions directly or indirectly from class 5️⃣ Tell the story in class, illustrating the connective tissue between problems in the real world, classroom skills, and their part in creating a better world by solving a problem around them This is effectively what we're doing with HAX The Web and the work that Bill Rose Jennifer Frank Dave Fusco Winston White Alyssa Foran Firaol Tulu Firew Chloe Martin and I are engaged in. Taking a need in the workplace, leveraging the classroom environment to structure projects to help in pursuit of that problem, implementing those solutions back into the class and then talking about it to further the impact! My guess is this methodology can be scaled to non-technical sectors as well but teaching in an information college, and working on a platform to reduce costs and improve quality of online educational materials, certainly makes it a bit easier to see a path emerge. Students want authenticity, impact, and to understand how their skills connect to the real world. This methodology has been able to scale a community from an idea on a piece of paper to dozens of career professionals in the field leveraging skills they honed in helping to produce an ecosystem that has delivered high quality, accessible experiences in a low cost hosting format to a minimum of 67k+ students in the past 5 years. The story keeps being written and we'd love to have you join the chorus of students improving the fabric of the web, lowering the cost of education, and improving ubiquity of web authoring all while enhancing their careers to better position themselves for the marketplace. https://lnkd.in/ee5mz-pE

    • visualization of the process of a student taking courses in content related to the web, which benefits HAX, which then the student learns the skills needed to contribute to HAX, which they then contribute to HAX and benefit their careers, which in turn benefits the university as well as future students taking the class and the wider community.

8 minute preview of HAX The Web 26.x.x with major showcases of work from Winston White and Chloe Martin -- https://lnkd.in/ehrT7usw 26 adds support for (effectively) a "site builder" type of role in the HAX ecosystem. This expands us from site owner and end user (viewing the site) into the ability for a site owner to effectively craft the experience they have with the system, turn it into a skeleton for others to reuse, or limit the capabilities of someone else leveraging the site. This isn't full on permissions, but it does allow for focusing and scoping closer to the user's intended use case as opposed to HAX traditional kitchen sink approach.

🚀 Today, the Open Renaissance Group issues a global call for higher education to reclaim its digital future. For 25 years, institutions have built complex digital ecosystems powering teaching, learning, and research. Yet reliance on a small number of proprietary providers has increased, narrowing choice and limiting long-term strategic autonomy. Meanwhile, open source software and open standards, the very infrastructure underpinning much of higher education, have faded from strategic priority. In an AI-driven era defined by data governance, digital sovereignty, and security, this moment demands leadership. The Open Letter calls for: Renewed investment in Open Solutions Coordinated stewardship of our digital commons A shift from consumption to co-creation Strong institutional leadership across presidents, provosts, CIOs, and technologists This is not a critique. It is an invitation. 📄 Read & Sign the Open Letter: https://www.apereo.org/ORG 🌍 Learn More About Apereo: https://www.apereo.org/ Are you ready to help shape higher education’s digital future? 🚀 Canvas-to-HAX Pipeline — Progress Update The transformation engine is getting real. In the latest sprint we focused on the data + intelligence layer — and it’s unlocking everything that comes next: 🔹 Standardized export format from Canvas Every assignment, page, and activity now lands in a clean, structured model — making large-scale analysis and enhancement possible. 🔹 Smarter evaluation algorithm: We’re no longer just scanning content — we’re interpreting learning design quality with greater accuracy against our research-based frameworks. 🔹 Redesigned web report: Clear navigation, meaningful grouping, and faster insight into where a course is strong — and where AI-ready improvements matter most. 🔹 Infrastructure aligned for HAX import: Consistent, reliable data → which means enhanced content can flow directly into modern, AI-powered delivery. This is how we turn existing LMS courses into AI-native learning experiences at scale. • HAXcms draws a lot of architectural inspiration from GravCMS, particularly in the notion that any site can become the basis for a future site. Skeletons made their way into HAX 25 and in HAX 26 we'll open up a UI for anyone to click and turn their site into a skeleton (another hat tip to grav). Keep on making the web an easier space for people to learn Paul! Skeleton templates in GravCMS are a great vehicle for lowering barriers to participation on the web and educating more people with less resources!
