World Patient Safety Day is observed annually on September 17th to raise awareness of the need to prioritize patient safety. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the rich history of Hispanic life. We at Healthmap Solutions are also raising awareness of the prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in Hispanic populations. According to a study published by the American Journal of Kidney Disease, “Although the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is similar or slightly lower in Hispanics than non-Hispanic whites, the age- and sex-adjusted prevalence rate of end-stage renal disease is almost 50% higher in Hispanics compared with non-Hispanic whites.” Social determinants of health (SDOH) are a major factor. Through our Kidney Population Health Management program, Healthmap Solutions provides ongoing support for all members living with CKD and ESRD. It’s National Nephrology Nurses Week, and Healthmap Solutions sends a shout-out to the nurses who specialize in kidney care.
