Last week, our Heart + Paw Support Center team had the pleasure of visiting the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, PA and what an incredible experience it was! From feeding giraffes to a lively photo scavenger hunt, the day was filled with fun, laughter, and connection. But the true highlight? The behind-the-scenes tour of the Frank and Paige Engro Veterinary Health Center. As veterinary professionals, we were especially in awe of the level of expertise, care, and innovation their medical team brings to every zoo resident interaction. From advanced diagnostic tools to thoughtful safety protocols, it was both educational and inspiring. A huge thank you to the Elmwood Park Zoo veterinary team for the warm welcome and for generously sharing their time and knowledge. Today, we honor Juneteenth, a powerful reminder of resilience, freedom, and the ongoing pursuit of justice. On this day in 1865, enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth invites us to reflect on our history, recognize the injustices Black Americans have faced, and recommit ourselves to the continued fight for equality.
