In the fast-paced world of open-source security, spotting adversarial prepositioning in the software supply chain is just the start. With increasing attacks, the question is: Can we finally move beyond reactive thinking? Exiger’s JC Herz sat down with Shannon Lantzy, Ph.D., PMP for the latest episode of Inside MedTech Innovation to talk through the heart of proactive decision-making and real-world strategies to stay ahead. 📺 Catch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/e_94SZx4 #OpenSourceSecurity #CyberSecurity #MedTech

My talk at S4 is live on YouTube!
Security metrics are one way to evaluate cyber risk. However, companies with seemingly good security metrics have been hacked due to other corporate risk factors. JC Herz discusses non-security data and business indicators you should look at through a cyber risk lens. There are mountains of non-security data about company risk: financial health or distress, ownership changes, regulatory violations and legal issues, and business performance. On-time delivery. Defects. Contract cancellation. Layoffs. Staffing in general. #s4xevents #securitymetrics Many security professionals have lived through chapters of company history when security posture is insufficient. Lack of focus. Other priorities. But those other priorities have a way of showing up in non-security data. This session helps you identify and use these leading indicators of security incidents.

Looking forward to seeing Operational technology and industrial cybersecurity experts at S4 next week in Tampa! Nothing like spending time with people who are fighting in the trenches of cybersecurity in critical infrastructure. My talk will cover non-security indicators of security risk, because how a company does anything is oftentimes how it does everything, including ongoing diligence and investment in security posture. It will be spicy ;-)

IoT world Summit kicks off the cybersecurity track on Day 2 with a panel discussion on women in cybersecurity. A great mix of regional representation, lots of genius on stage, witty commentary, just wow. Pull quote: JC Herz - there are few people that are great in cyber, most moved in laterally, and a select few trying to prevent silly mistakes. When you sponsor people, it's transactional. Its a power dynamic and it's often uncomfortable. Men seemingly are ok with that, but women also have to move towards that too! And when you sponsor, make it someone you don't necessarily like, but sponsor because of excellence. Not because you like them, or go for lunch with them. Alba Díaz Ballester - what is alarming, is society is moving along and there is not enough female representation (and championing). We need to show our strengths, we need to feel welcome. Find mentors, but why not also sponsors - who can advocate for you as well? a person to get you back in the game. unfortunately there is a lack of women in leadership that are acting as sponsors. Embrace the discomfort, take the opportunity. Noelle Beaini - visibility - if you walk into a room, and have a look around. and what you may notice, and they may choose to sit at the back if there isn't space at the table. So go sit at the table, and get your voice in. Be assertive, and empowered. Many are just discovering how to get out there, and I see, unless somebody creates the context, the topics of mentorship are often not brought up. A great help with the sponsorship gap is professional networks. e.g. Romanian women in cyber. This has helped, but doesn't entirely negate sponsorship gaps. It's still a small world. Marina Nogales Fulwood - women have been brought up differently, but what happens when you are growing up in a company? how good are we at helping each other? Marina also asked a lot of great probing questions, but I'm leaving this session with: none of us are too busy or too important to mentor AND sponsor individuals who can do great, who are great. Take the chance. #iotswc24 #cybersecurity #barcelona #womenincyber
