➡️ Last year, we announced the availability of a simple mechanism for #InternationalPatientSummary (IPS) stakeholders to propose changes to one or more of the IPS standards artefacts that make up the IPS “suite of standards.” If you’re curious about what has been requested and the status of those requests, you’re in luck — now you can check them out for yourself! As of this post, 40 change requests have been submitted, some of which include requests to add content to the IPS, while others focus on clarifications, verifications and requests for guidance, to cite a few. ▶️ Take a look here: https://lnkd.in/e_kV4uSe

  • 🇮🇹 A recent Substack post argues that Italy is at a critical decision point in choosing nursing terminologies for digital health and #AI systems. Author Walter De Caro, who strongly advocates for the adoption of SNOMED International’s #SNOMEDCT and the ICN-International Council of Nurses' International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP) as the foundation for #interoperable nursing data in Italy, notes that despite Italy’s 2022 Electronic Health Record decree that already explicitly references SNOMED CT and ICNP for nursing clinical data, implementation has lagged. Since AI systems in healthcare depend on structured, standardized, and interoperable data, De Caro, President of the Italian National Consortium of Nurses' Associations, says poorly coded or ambiguous nursing data will limit the effectiveness and safety of AI tools. He also argues that SNOMED CT is now the dominant international clinical terminology standard, and is already used in many countries around the globe, including in the European Union, which is investing heavily in SNOMED CT adoption through the European Health Data Space initiative to ensure cross-border #interoperability of health data. De Caro presents the ICNP as the preferred nursing terminology because it is fully integrated into SNOMED CT as the Nursing Practice Reference Set and it supports diagnoses, interventions and outcomes within one coherent, machine-readable system. 🔗 Read the article here (it’s in Italian but you can use Google translate): https://lnkd.in/dAceFds3

🌎 Following our participation in Connectathon Argentina 2026, we are pleased to see the tangible progress being made towards a more connected healthcare ecosystem across the country. As part of the Pan-American Highway for Health (PH4H) initiative, the event brought together stakeholders from 22 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, alongside public and private healthcare organizations, patient representatives, and national digital health authorities. Key interoperability standards, including HL7 FHIR, SNOMED CT, and the International Patient Summary (#IPS), were successfully validated through collaborative testing activities focused on the National Patient Summary and real-world health information exchange scenarios. IHE Catalyst was proud to support the Connectathon with interoperability testing expertise and the Gazelle Interoperability Test Platform, contributing to what represents an important milestone for digital health interoperability in Argentina and across Latin America. Our thanks to the Ministry of Health of Argentina, PAHO Procurement and Supply Management, IDB Invest, RACSEL - Red de América Latina y el Caribe de Salud Digital, SNOMED International, and all participating organizations whose commitment and collaboration made this achievement possible. • Great article highlighting the opportunities and challenges new SNOMED International Member South Africa faces as it adopts #snomedct and modernizes and standardizes its healthcare coding environment to support interoperability, reimbursement reform, digital health transformation and improved patient care. "There is an opportunity to move beyond incremental fixes," the article notes. "The adoption of SNOMED CT, the gradual international shift towards ICD-11 and the growing need for better public and private sector data create a moment to redesign coding as health-system infrastructure. The task is to separate the layers, define their roles, govern the mappings between them and build a system that can support care, payment, quality improvement and policy." https://lnkd.in/egs7GZpG
