On Tuesday IPO attended the TM5 User Session at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, VA. The TM5 is made up of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), the EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the Japan Patent Office (JPO), Korea’s Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP), and the USPTO. The World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO was also in attendance. Topics discussed included an overview of the TM5 Midterm Meeting, updates from the TM5 Offices, and presentations by the offices and user groups on absolute refusals. IPO’s delegation included Monica Riva Talley (Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox), Danae Robinson (Pirkey Barber PLLC), and IPO Legal and Policy Associate Astrid Roe. IPO’s International Trademark Law & Practice Committee Chair Matthew Owen (Caterpillar Inc.) and U.S. Trademark Office Practice Committee Chair Donna Griffiths (Schneider Electric) participated virtually.
