We built imi to be a lifeline. A free, digital mental health resource where LGBTQ+ youth can explore their identity, manage stress, and feel less alone. Today, we’re proud to share that over 200,000 young people have used imi.guide, a tool developed in partnership with Hopelab and CenterLink, and backed by research to improve coping skills and emotional well-being. For too many queer youth, affirming mental health support is still out of reach. Fabi, one of our Youth Voices, came out in middle school, but couldn’t find affordable, LGBTQ-specific care in her Florida hometown. The only LGBTQ-specific provider was out of reach financially. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that her family was able to find telehealth support abroad. Fabi’s story isn’t unique. And that’s exactly why tools like imi matter. When you support It Gets Better, you help keep imi free, accessible, and growing. Explore it. Share it. It Gets Better exists to uplift, empower, and connect LGBTQ+ youth around the globe.
About us
In 2010, LGBTQ+ people and their allies all over the world uttered three words that would give rise to a global movement — it gets better. A wildly successful social media campaign was born, with more than 70,000 people sharing their stories to provide hope and encouragement to young LGBTQ+ people. Today, the It Gets Better is a global non-profit that reaches millions of young people each year through inspiring media programming, educational resources, international affiliates in 19 countries, and access to an arsenal of community-based service providers. It Gets Better received an Emmy Award in 2012 and has garnered support from Presidents Obama and Biden, Kerry Washington, Jane Fonda, Kelly Clarkson, Gabrielle Union, Chris and Scott Evans, Mj Rodriguez, Ciara, Jojo Siwa and more than 760,000 others who have taken the pledge to share messages of hope and to speak up against intolerance.

Thank you to E.L.F. BEAUTY for inviting us to be part of today's "Give an e.l.f." consumer impact activation in New York. Our Assistant Manager of Global Programming Alex Orué was on site to represent It Gets Better, and here's a little glimpse into their afternoon. "This Tuesday, I stopped by e.l.f. Cosmetics’ East Village store for their Give an e.l.f. activation, a beautiful initiative inviting customers to think about the causes that matter most to them and donate to one of e.l.f.’s nonprofit partners. I was so proud to see It Gets Better included as the beneficiary for the LGBTQ+ category. What stood out to me wasn’t just the generosity, but how e.l.f. encouraged people to have conversations about giving, about what moves them and why. Watching customers talk openly about the issues they care about was a powerful reminder of how many people genuinely want to make a difference." We are so thrilled that e.l.f. continues to show up and speak out for LGBTQ+ youth. Thanks for giving and e.l.f. #itgetsbetter #brantpartnerships #elfbeauty #elfcosmetics #elfimpact

We’re still on cloud nine. Thank you, Paul Feig. Last night on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Paul won $54,000 for It Gets Better. This funding will fuel inclusive storytelling and digital safe spaces where LGBTQ+ youth can find community, expand youth-led projects in schools and communities around the country, provide mentorship and training for the next generation of LGBTQ+ leaders, and more. Earlier this year, Paul and his wife, Laurie, made a significant donation to It Gets Better and to our friends at The Trevor Project and Trans Lifeline. As Paul said then: “I can’t sit idly by and watch as my friends, colleagues and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole — our fellow citizens — are stripped of their rights.” Thank you to these incredible allies for continuing to show up and speak out for LGBTQ+ youth. #itgetsbetter #paulfeig #wheeloffortune

Proud to share some big news from our global affiliate network. The original series "Conversas Que Inspiram" (Conversations That Inspire) from It Gets Better Brasil has been nominated for the Prisma Queer Award at the 49th São Paulo International Film Festival, one of the world’s most influential film events. 👏 👏 👏 With support from Disney and our global grants program, the project has grown from a one-off campaign into a talk-show series delivering real outcomes. Season one focuses on inclusion and belonging in schools. Season two advances LGBTQ+ employability. Alongside the episodes, the team runs mentorships, workshops, and hands-on training in the audiovisual industry, turning visibility into skills, networks, and jobs for queer and trans youth. And they’re not slowing down. By 2026, season three will train more than 100 LGBTQ+ young people in audiovisual production, expanding a pipeline of diverse talent for a growing creative economy. This nomination is a big win for It Gets Better Brazil and proof that when local leaders have resources and support, they can transform communities. When you support It Gets Better, you help us uplift, empower, and connect LGBTQ+ youth around the globe. It Gets Better has teamed up with a group of graduate students from iConsultancy at the University of Maryland (UMD) to reimagine our digital presence, and they want your input. The students are conducting a research study to better understand the needs of users like you through 1-on-1 interviews, focus groups, and co-design sessions. Their goal is simple: to learn what’s working, what’s not, and how we can do even more to uplift, empower, and connect LGBTQ+ youth around the globe. Interested in participating? STEP 1. Please take 5 min by Tue, Nov 4 to complete a pre-qualification survey using the link below. This will help determine eligibility for the study. All responses are confidential and voluntary, and all are welcome to submit. STEP 2. If chosen, you’ll be invited to participate in the study. STEP 3. After the study is complete, participants will receive It Gets Better swag as a thank-you. Thank you for helping us make our work better. To close out Hispanic Heritage Month and our #Mis15 celebration, activist Rose Montoya is throwing the quinceañera she never got to have, and she’s and inviting us all to the party. 🏳️⚧️🎉👠 In her doble quinceañera video, Rose celebrates joy, healing, and reconnection with her culture, her family, and herself. ✨ We get to see her parents gift her her first pair of heels, even her first doll, moments she never experienced as a teen. 🩷🎁 It’s a celebration years in the making, made even sweeter knowing Rose grew up watching It Gets Better videos (and even recorded one of her own). 📹🌈 Fifteen years later, she’s joining us in celebrating our quince too. Watch this preview of Rose’s doble quinceañera and join us again next month for a full length video of the entire celebration. 🎊📽️ #HispanicHeritageMonth #itgetsbetter #lgbtqyouth #transyouth #quinceañera

Have you ever heard of the “gay rumor”? The whispers in the hallway about someone’s sexuality or gender identity before they were ready to come out. Maybe even before they had the words to express who they are and how they identify. For many LGBTQ+ youth, those rumors can shape how they see themselves, how safe they feel, and when (or if) they choose to share their truth. This National Coming Out Day, our Youth Voices ambassadors Jay and Angelo are reminding everyone that coming out should always happen on your own terms. Together, they created a video about the “gay rumor" and what it means to take that power back. Whether you’ve already come out, are still figuring it out, or aren’t sure if you ever will, we’re celebrating you. Your path is your own. At It Gets Better, we walk side by side with LGBTQ+ youth every step of the way — offering support, connection, and hope for the future. If you’re able, make a donation today to help us keep showing up for them. Donors who give $25 or more this month will receive a special thank-you gift. Backed by a $1.5M CAD investment from the Government of Canada, GLO empowers users with daily lessons, interactive features, and even a companion that grows as they do. Together with imi.guide, It Gets Better's science-backed digital resource built with Hopelab and CenterLink, GLO represents the next generation of youth-led innovation in LGBTQ+ mental health.
