How do career teams currently manage everything they're responsible for? Short answer: They don't. 😳 The math doesn't work. Student-to-Advisor ratios exceed 2,500:1. Transactional tasks take up hours each day. It's impossible to meaningfully engage every student who comes to career services the quality they need, let alone every student on campus. Today's post we look at Strategic Area #4: Student Reach and Service Design. --- So, then if the math doesn't work, what are teams currently trying to do to move students forward? Rebekah says that teams are doing something like the following: ❗️ Spending 90% of time on individual resume reviews ‼️ Using the 1-on-1 model for every student need ⁉️ Manually handling what technology could automate ‼️⁉️ Burning out on repetition while missing transformation This means that all kinds of issues perissts—such as first-gen students falling through cracks or critical conversations never happening. But Rebekah says the solution is asking the right questions. The one that lead to breakthroughs: "What if we tiered our services?" "What if AI handled the basics?" "What if we freed advisors for what matters?" The new model then is one where AI-powered self-service tools can handle 70% of needs, strategic group workshops handle 25% of needs, and intensive transformational coaching takes up the last 5% of needs. These tactics can be implemented without losing the human touch and scale the quality—not just quantity—of career services. --- Next week, on November 4, 2025 at 3:30 pm ET, learn how to manage the impossible at "Beyond the 1-on-1: The Future of Career Services' webinar. One week to go! I’ve seen a pattern that I find impossible to ignore. I’ve done so many partner onboarding's recently and every single career services team is talking about the same concept: Do more with less while actually improving student outcomes. 📈 No two are doing it the same, but they all seem to be focusing on strategy in a few specific areas. Funnily enough, those areas seem to line up with what our next webinar guest, Rebekah Pare, says are five key strategic areas to focus on to transform your career services. 💡Strategic Orientation 💡Institutional Alignment 💡Academic Integration 💡Student Reach and Service Design 💡Communications and Influence Many of these institutions came from something that looked like this: ➡️ Stuck in reactive mode—no vision beyond "help students get jobs" ➡️ Measuring activity (resume reviews) instead of transformation (career readiness) ➡️ 1:2,500 ratios with same one-size-fits-all service model ➡️ Operating in silos on campus—career services as an "add-on" not integrated priority ➡️ Invisible to leadership—can't articulate ROI beyond transaction counts Our partners sought to make changes that would make an impact on one or more of those of those issues. The goal was to get to a point they could say they have answers like one of the following: ✅ A clear vision driving every decision and investment ✅ Tracking employment outcomes that allowed them to secure budget increases ✅ Career modules embedded in curriculum ✅ A mixed or self-service model—AI handles the basics so students can be proactive and then advisors have time to drive transformation Their answer to "doing more with less" was never about working harder. It was about working strategically across these five areas. One partner put it perfectly: "We stopped asking 'how can we review more resumes?' and started asking 'how do we make career development unavoidable?' Then we built a plan around that." Want to know how the top-performing career centers are making this shift? Join us Tuesday, November 4 at 3 pm ET with career services expert Rebekah Paré for "Beyond the 1-on-1: The Future of Career Services". She'll lay out what separates thriving centers from those barely surviving. Check out the registration link in the comments ⬇️ #HigherEducation #CareerServices

How can career services leaders drive change and secure the resources they desperately need? It is literally a million-dollar question for many teams. In our post last week, Rebekah Paré revealed how strategic orientation sets your direction. But direction without resources gets you nowhere. The second strategic area tackles the questions keeping you up at night: ❓ How do we align our efforts to actually move students forward? ❓ What will convince leadership to invest in transformation? ❓ How can we shift from cost center to strategic partner? Today, we focus on Strategic Area #2: Institutional Alignment --- You can feel it. The disconnect is real: Campus leadership asks: "What's our ROI?" You answer: "We did 500 resume reviews" And then you see your budget and you know: you're not getting funding. Rebekah says that teams securing major investment answer differently: 📊 "How are we driving enrollment?" → "Career outcomes influence 23% of application decisions" 📊 "How are we improving retention?" → "Students with career plans persist 15% higher" 📊 "How are we protecting federal aid?" → "We're your compliance insurance" --- At our webinar "Beyond the 1-on-1: The Future of Career Services", Rebekah will answer these transformation questions (and more): ✅ How to translate your work into executive language ✅ What metrics actually move decision-makers ✅ How to align career services with institutional survival Join us on November 4, 2025 at 3:30 pm ET. Jobscan reposted this “I’m not from higher ed,” he told me. “I’m from labor. We stopped calling it a career center on purpose.” That one stuck. His team rebuilt everything around relationships, not resources - assigning coordinators to deans, embedding in classrooms, bringing employers directly to students. Early and often. “Our students don’t want another tool,” he said. “They want someone to sit with them.” And honestly, who can blame them? Because here’s what happens when capacity meets expectation: • Programs with faculty allies get in-class career touchpoints. Others get an email. • Students with networks hear nuance; first-gen students get templates. • Those balancing jobs or families miss the workshops altogether. The result isn’t apathy. It’s inequity - measured in missed opportunities. Meanwhile, the questions keep coming from every direction: parents asking about ROI, faculty asking about relevance, employers asking about readiness. He didn’t claim to have it figured out. “The minute you think you do,” he said, “you’re already behind the curve.” His approach-build trust first, use tools second-was a reminder that progress in career services doesn’t start with systems or software. It starts with belonging. #CareerServices #HigherEducation #StudentSuccess

Jobscan reposted this I want to share a strategy that I believe is a game-changer for anyone on the job hunt right now. Stop just telling recruiters you're "learning a skill." It's time to start showing them the finished product. 🏗️ Instead of simply enrolling in another course, I encourage you to reverse-engineer the proof a hiring manager is looking for. Here’s a practical framework to try before you next apply: 1️⃣ Identify the Artifact: Find a tangible deliverable mentioned in a job description you want (e.g., "competitive analysis deck," "social media content calendar," "user journey map"). 2️⃣ Find an Example: Search online for high-quality, real-world examples. Use queries like "investor pitch deck example" or "product launch plan template." 3️⃣ Create Your Own: Dedicate a weekend to building your own version. Use public information to create a UX teardown of Uber Eats vs. DoorDash, or a content plan for a local brand. 4️⃣ Showcase It: Host the final PDF or slide deck on your portfolio or Google Drive and link to it in a "Projects" section on your resume (try Jobscan's resume scanner to ensure your resume highlights your skills and value.) By doing this, you’re no longer just a candidate listing skills—you're a professional presenting a portfolio of your work. #careeradvice #jobsearchtips #gethired #upskilling #jobhunt

Career advisors, ask yourself: what truly drives impact for my students? 🤔 For most, the answer has something to do with having genuine connections with students and strategic career conversations. We talk to dozens of career services professionals a week. We hear the same challenges over and over: ❌ The uncertainty of funding and resourcing ❌ The strain of high caseloads ❌ Too much day-to-day time spent on transactional tasks The result is less time to dedicate to the impactful, strategic career development initiatives that creates those connections and career conversations you know drive impact. We know Career Services teams are dedicated to helping students navigate their future. Yet, the sheer volume of transactional tasks - especially resume reviews - can feel like a barrier to providing the nuanced, individualized support you strive for. Moving beyond transactional tasks towards transformational career impact is the number one goal for these career services teams. Learn what the gaps are to making the move from transactional to transformational and how these gaps can be closed.
