We’ve published the latest cohort life expectancy at birth for babies born in 2023 in the UK taking into account projected changes in mortality patterns over their lifetime Boys born in the UK in 2023 can expect to live on average to age 86.7 years, and girls to live to 90.0 years. It is projected that more than 1 in 10 boys and 1 in 6 girls born in 2023 will live to at least 100 years old. The gap between male and female cohort life expectancy at birth has fallen over the past four decades. This is likely due to improvements in lifestyle, for example reduction in smoking rates and the working conditions of men over several decades, as well as advances in healthcare, for example the prevention and treatment of heart disease. The gap is projected to be down to 2.5 years by 2072. Read the full article ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e9drZmck #CohortLifeExpectancyAtBirth

The economy picked up in December after several weak months, meaning, overall, the economy grew a little in the fourth quarter of last year. Across the quarter, growth in services and construction were partially offset by a fall in production. GDP per head, in contrast, fell back slightly in the quarter. In December wholesale, film distribution and pubs and bars all had a strong month, as did manufacturing of machinery and the often-erratic pharmaceutical industry. However, these were partially offset by weak months for computer programming, publishing and car sales. Read the release ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eu9u_uva

We've updated our UK Measures of National Well-Being Dashboard, an overview of well-being in the UK on an individual, community and national level and how sustainable that is for the future. 26 of the 59 measures across 10 topic areas have been updated. Some measures updated include: Trust in government: this has maintained its increase experienced in the previous quarter with 27.9% adults reporting that they tend to trust the UK government (December 2024 to January 2025). This is a significant increase from the same time last year (19.5% in November 2023). Fair treatment: 19.2% of adults in Great Britain feel very or somewhat unfairly treated by society (December 2024 to January 2025), compared with 12.6% in December 2023 to January 2024. Anxiety: 22.5% of adults in the UK said they were feeling “high anxiety yesterday” in July to September 2024, compared with July to September 2019 (20.4%). 26.3% of females compared with 18.5% of males said they were feeling “high anxiety yesterday” in July to September 2024. Total public service productivity was estimated to be 1.4% lower in Quarter 3 (July to Sept) 2024 compared with the same quarter in 2023. Total public service productivity grew by an estimated 0.2% in Quarter 3 2024 compared with Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2024, with inputs falling faster than outputs (-0.3% and -0.1%, respectively). For the first time, we have published quarterly public service productivity data specifically for healthcare, the largest individual service area by share of expenditure. These figures are official statistics in development. They do not include changes in the relative quality of services, as many of these quality factors require data that are not yet available. We’ve published the results of the first population-level study of its kind to evaluate the impact of #endometriosis (a chronic gynaecological condition) on monthly employee pay and employee status in England (April 2016 to December 2022). With a study sample of 55,290 women, we used anonymised NHS and HMRC data, linked to 2011 census data. We looked at changes in monthly pay and employee status linked to having had an endometriosis diagnosis in an NHS hospital, compared with the two-year period before diagnosis. This work supports a better understanding of employment barriers for women with endometriosis and provides new evidence for policy makers and healthcare providers. · There was a significant average decrease in monthly earnings from 1 to 5 years after being diagnosed with endometriosis among women aged 25 to 54 in England, compared with the two years before diagnosis. · Monthly pay dropped year-on-year compared with pre-diagnosis pay, down an average £56 per month in the 4 to 5 years after diagnosis among women in paid work. Suggesting that those in work may be working in lower paid jobs, or working fewer hours, compared with the 2 years before diagnosis. · The probability of being a paid employee significantly decreased after an endometriosis diagnosis, decreasing by 2.7 percentage points in the 4 to 5 years post-diagnosis compared with the 2 years before diagnosis.
